What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Program Implementation Professional position at Heart To Heart International?

Heart to Heart International (HHI) seeks to improve healthcare access in the US and around the world by ensuring quality care is provided equitably in medically under-resourced communities and in disaster situations.

HHI works with health clinics in under-resourced communities to install point of care testing capabilities. HHI laboratory experts train clinic staff and provide the necessary equipment and supplies for the point of care testing. This testing capability allows clinics to run laboratory tests on site and provide accurate diagnoses and treatments within a patient’s same visit. This position is an integral team member of Heart to Heart International helping to support the growth of HHI’s humanitarian services operations.

In addition, the Laboratory Program Implementation Professional will work along with various HHI departments including Community Health, Volunteerism, Marketing and Communications, Logistics, Warehouse, Access to Medicine, Emergency Response, and Finance to ensure coordination of all activities within HHI operating policy and procedure. This position reports directly to the Director of Laboratory Programs.

Under the supervision of the Director of Laboratory Programs, responsibilities in four functional areas include:

Drive for Results

  • Assist with POC laboratory clinic selection, implementation, and training.
  • Oversee monitoring of POC lab clinics.
  • Assist in strategizing and outlining the goals and objectives of the POC laboratory program.
  • Collaborate and assist with other HHI programs and projects as necessary.

Operational Excellence

  • Plan and adhere to timelines, project plans, and budgets for the POC laboratory program.
  • Monitor multiple projects through all stages of the program life cycle.
  • Manage day-to-day detailed aspects of multiple projects; track program progress, M&E, and solve problems as they arise.
  • Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Ensure HHI adheres to appropriate laboratory regulations in its laboratory programs, including laboratory standards and CLIA regulations.

Partnerships / Relationship Building

  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, training, direction, and monitoring. 
  • Assist team members, volunteers, and other HHI departments when needed to accomplish team goals.
  • Communicate program objectives, goals, and progress to program managers, directors, HHI leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong relationships with donors, grantees, partners, and other NGOs involved with the POC laboratory program.

Leadership / Stewardship / Supervision

  • Help set project controls, governance, and standards including Measurement and Evaluation (M&E) and provide monthly progress data.
  • Coordinate utilization of resources and monitor budgetary items; enlist volunteers and team members as needed.
  • Collaborate on funding presentations and grant submissions as necessary.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills with attention to detail and time management.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Cultural sensitivity in diverse settings.
  • Foreign language skills are beneficial.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an associate degree in a clinical field (ex: MLT, CLT, MA) with certification; Bachelor degree (ex: MT, CLS, MLS) with certification preferred.
  • Previous experience with point of care laboratory testing, and basic knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and procedures.
  • Technical knowledge of Microsoft office products.
  • Extensive domestic travel is required (up to 30-35%).
