Prevention Specialist

Prevention Specialist is an energizing role to educate youth and their families how to live the healthiest lives possible by promoting wellness.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

• Facilitate evidence-based substance use and misuse prevention and mental health curriculum.
• Deliver presentations at schools and community sites about how to live healthy and productive lives.
• Conduct awareness campaigns to reduce the use and misuse of alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, prescription drugs, and other substances.
• Participate in community events for families.
• Help lead a summer program for students.
• Responsible for accurate completion of monthly reports and other documentation related to the progress of participants in the program.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Degree in mental health or substance use, education, communications, social work, psychology or related field preferred.
• Certified Prevention Specialist designation preferred, but not mandatory
• Two years' experience working with youth in chemical dependency prevention, intervention, or treatment setting. One year of experience working with families is preferred for family programs.
• Must maintain a valid Drivers' License, have proof of automobile insurance and maintain a safe driving record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Prefer experience with alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs, and prevention services.
• Passionate about working with children, youth, and families from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Good written and verbal skills with an ability and desire to speak effectively before groups of children and adults
• Basic knowledge of computers, relevant software, and use of technology.
• MUST complete Associate Prevention Specialist or Certified Prevention Specialist Certification within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to effectively manage classroom or group while presenting educational curriculum
• Utilize evidence-based curriculum as designated by the program contract for youth and families.
• Coordinate and facilitate activities to include arts and craft projects, alternative activities, sports activities, field trips and more.
• Prepares and facilitates groups with individuals, families, and the public.
• Conducts pre-screen and post-screen assessments according to program contract.
• Provides referrals as needed.
• Attends all meetings according to program needs.
• Supervises youth in all program activities.
• Adheres to the professional standards established by Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network.
• Other duties as assigned.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Salary:
$45,000-$52,965 DOE and education

Regional Stipend $5,000
