Heart House is an education non-profit that serves refugee, immigrant, and under-resourced children with a holistic out-of-school and summer program, utilizing literacy and social emotional learning (SEL) to help them thrive in their new community. We’re located in the same Vickery Meadow (NE Dallas) area as these families, offering a safe space for kids to learn, gain new experiences, and grow. We’re dedicated to meeting the academic and emotional needs of refugee and immigrant children, because every child deserves a chance to reach their full potential.
The AmeriCorps Community & Family Engagement Associate will support the program by coordinating volunteers, assisting with volunteer check-in, communicating with families, and assisting in planning and executing events.
Primary duties include:
- Create innovative strategies for recruiting and coordinating volunteers to serve in the program.
- Helping to maintain the Heart House volunteer database and onboarding new volunteers.
- Welcoming new volunteers and volunteer groups to program sites and events.
- Attend community outreach events to recruit students and families to the program.
- Develop family engagement activities and assist with event planning and execution.
- Participate in various training and professional development activities.
- Participate in Heart House and related community events for families, holidays, and special recognition events.
- Communicate with families and volunteers about Heart House program information.
Members also assist with program-related special projects and events as determined by site staff if these requests are within the AmeriCorps guidelines and do not take away time from essential functions. Examples of these activities include helping with program, family, and community events.
The AmeriCorps CFE Associate will check in with the Community and Family Engagement Coordinator daily
This location requires a total service commitment of 300 hours.
Benefits include
Living Allowance of $3,000.06; paid out biweekly ($333.34)
Education Award of $1,565.08; earned at the end of term.
