Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Billing Specialist to join our team. As a Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately processing and managing medical billing and coding for our medical office. This is a crucial role in ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement for services provided.
Responsibilities:
- Review and verify accuracy of patient demographic and insurance information
- Assign appropriate medical codes (ICD-10, ICD-9, DRG) to diagnoses and procedures
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies electronically or by mail
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, ensuring timely resolution
- Process payments received from insurance companies or patients
- Maintain accurate records of billing activities in the system
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve billing issues and discrepancies
- Stay up-to-date with changes in medical coding systems and regulations
Experience:
- Previous experience working in medical billing or related field
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, coding systems (ICD-10), and billing procedures
- Proficient in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- Familiarity with medical collection processes and insurance claim submission
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
