The Associate Program Director / Academic Family Medicine Physician provides strategic, academic, and clinical leadership for the Abrazo Family Medicine residency program. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality education, accreditation compliance, faculty development, and excellent patient care. The Associate Program Director, in conjunction with the Program Director, serves as the primary leader for curriculum design, resident oversight, and program evaluation while maintaining an active clinical practice and teaching responsibilities. Key responsibilities include:
- Assist in oversight of the Family Medicine Residency Program
- Assist the Program Director to ensure compliance with ACGME (or applicable to accrediting body), institutional policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Mentor, supervise and evaluate residents and faculty, fostering a supportive and professional learning environment.
- Leads the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC)
- Oversee curriculum, development assessment tools, and continuous program improvement.
- Assist in recruiting, supervising, evaluating, and supporting core and adjunct faculty.
- Teach and precept residents and medical students in clinical and didactic settings.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the Family Medicine curriculum, including didactics, clinical rotations, and scholarly activities.
- Provide direct teaching and supervision of residents, medical students, and other learners in clinical and classroom settings.
- Mentor residents and faculty in professional development, clinical competency, research, and scholarly activity.
- Conduct resident recruitment, selection, orientation, evaluation, and remediation when necessary.
- Promote a culture of academic excellence, diversity, equity, inclusion, and learner well-being
- Provide comprehensive Family Medicine care in outpatient and/or inpatient settings consistent with organizational needs.
- Supervise and evaluate residents and students during clinical encounters.
- All other duties as assigned.
- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
- Board Certified in Family Medicine (ABFM or AOBFM).
- Unrestricted medical license (or eligibility) in the state of practice (Arizona).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical practice in Family Medicine.
- Prior experience in graduate medical education, academic medicine, or residency teaching preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Prior experience as Associate Program Director, Core Faculty, or Program Director preferred.
