POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Mental Health Technician is an integral part of the care team. The Mental Health Technician is patient with our internal and external customers. He/She is passionate about ensuring that patients have access to the care they need and daily supports the psychiatric provider and other mental health providers with direct patient care as well as serves as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers and their support teams. This individual is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external providers for health care services available to patients. The Mental Health Technician is kind, a critical thinker, and enjoys working with a team. The Mental Health Technician is responsible for assisting with referral management, scanning, completing monthly reports as directed, and participating with department and/or clinical programs for quality initiatives and process improvement for workflow efficiency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Patient Care and Provider Support

1. Greets, screens, schedules, and directs patients to exam rooms.

2. Reminds patients of appointments as directed by manager and/or procedure within behavioral health department.

3. Takes and documents vital signs.

4. Reviews medications, allergies, and notates refills needed. Obtains, verifies, and updates patient information and health history. Charts patient information into the medical record as reported by the patient.

5. Scans referrals and treatment records into patient files and forwards the record to the appropriate provider.

6. Provides and assists patients with screening assessments as directed by mental health providers inclusive but not limited to GAD questionnaires, PHQ questionnaires, etc.

7. Prepares for clinical appointments prior to patient visits ensuring charts are up to date. Notifies patients of any needs to support their visit accordingly.

8. Works with front office to manage appointment scheduling and rescheduling to earlier appointments in the event of cancellation.

9. Works to minimize cancellations due to transportation and other barriers by offering telehealth services as appropriate and offering transportation and/or case management assistance as appropriate.

10. Documents no shows accordingly in the electronic health record.

11. Responsible for medication refills for providers inclusive but not limited to obtaining relevant prior authorizations and/or completion of prescription assistance program applications as applicable.

12. Verifies insurance and completes prior authorizations to avoid delay in care and to ensure up to date information in chart.

13. Assists patients with ambulation and limited transfers; this includes pushing wheelchairs and assisting patients into and out of a wheelchair from a seated or standing position.

14. Cleans exam/procedure room/instruments/and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control requirements.

15. Orders, sorts, stores supplies and restocks exam/procedure rooms.

16. Sends/receives patient medical records, obtains patient lab/X-ray reports, hospital or clinic notes and referral information.

17. Acts as a gatekeeper for the providers by answering calls and sending electronic messages to the providers regarding calls and patient needs.

JOB REQUIREMENT/EXPERIENCE:

Required within 30 days of hire: BLS Certification

Required within 90 days of hire: Mental Health First Aid, QPR or equivalent training as directed by management, MANDT training, Crisis Management training, transfer training.

At least one (1) year experience in a healthcare setting, Preferred experience in direct patient care.

Licenses/Certification: CNA or CMA preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.50 - $19.50 per hour
