What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ultrasound Technologist position at HealthStar Physicians?
Essential Functions:
- Performs all ultrasound as directed.
- Prepares patients for ultrasound procedures following established procedures for patient care and safety.
- Ensures ultrasound equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to Practice Administrator.
- Documents all completed ultrasound procedures and processes all related paperwork as directed by physician order.
- Must have knowledge and experience regarding electronic medical records (Athena).
- Maintains examination rooms. Stocks necessary medical and ultrasound supplies.
- Must be willing to answer phones.
- Must have experience or willing to train in area of patient triage, nurse calls, pre-certs, referrals, scheduling testing and patient appointments.
Skills/Abilities:
- Experience with echo and vascular sonography.
- Proficient in all ultrasound modalities and protocols, PACS, RIS
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform ultrasound testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
- Knowledge or ultrasound equipment including safety hazards.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality as directed by OSHA and HIPAA standards.
- Knowledge of medical chart reporting and electronic medical records.
- Knowledge of clinic/medical practice procedures related to all medical operations.
- Must be skilled in customer service and have a pleasant and courteous demeanor while dealing with all patients and callers.
- Must be well organized and detail organized and be able to work independently without much supervision.
- Must have skills in critical thinking, communication, influence and decision making.
- Must have the ability to work cooperatively as a member of office staff and team.
Mental/Physical/Requirements:
- Combination of standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and sitting.
- Able to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately.
- Occasional stress from multiple requests.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Graduate from an ultrasound school preferred or on the job training.
Licenses or Certifications:
Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or registry eligible
