🛡 About the Role
Reporting to the Assistant Administrator, the Director of Safety & Security is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of the Safety & Security Department, Emergency Management Program, and Environment of Care Program.
You will set the strategic tone for a safe, compliant, and resilient facility while leading policy development, risk assessments, training initiatives, and regulatory coordination.
🧭 Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Program Oversight
- Develop, implement, and evaluate safety, security, emergency preparedness, and Environment of Care programs
- Set departmental goals, performance standards, and operational procedures
- Conduct risk assessments to ensure program effectiveness
Personnel Management
- Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and discipline staff according to HR policies
- Provide ongoing safety and emergency training for all facility personnel
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory authorities
- Oversee documentation and performance evaluation across all seven Environment of Care domains
- Maintain readiness for audits, inspections, and accreditation reviews
Budget & Operations
- Prepare and manage operational and capital budgets for the department
- Optimize departmental productivity, performance, and resource allocation
Quality, Safety & Improvement
- Participate in infection control, information management, and quality improvement programs
- Direct continuous monitoring of deficiencies and opportunities for improvement
- Collaborate with committees and leadership to implement and track recommended changes
- Complete annual evaluations of program scope, performance, and effectiveness
🎓 Qualifications
- College degree preferred
- Fire Safety Director Certificate required
- Experience leading safety, security, or emergency management programs, ideally in healthcare or residential environments
- Strong knowledge of Environment of Care standards and emergency preparedness
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
