Job Summary

HealthRIGHT 360, a nonprofit organization and a family of programs, is committed to providing accessible and comprehensive healthcare services to vulnerable populations. Our mission is to tackle systemic barriers to healthcare and promote health equity for all. We offer a wide range of services, including mental health care, residential and outpatient substance use treatment, and primary health services. Additionally, we provide transitional support for individuals re-entering the community after involvement in the criminal justice system. By integrating physical and behavioral health, we empower individuals to overcome challenges by addressing social determinants of health, fostering resilience, and facilitating recovery.

Prototypes’ Outpatient Behavioral Health Center in Pomona provides comprehensive mental health services for men, women and children. Services range from prevention and early intervention to intensive services for those with more serious or chronic conditions. Staff provide services at Prototypes and in the community. These can include individual, group and family therapy, psychiatric treatment, medication

management and medication-assisted therapies, case management, and referrals and coordination with primary care clinics.

The Temporary Group Counselor plays a vital role within a multidisciplinary team, aiding clients by evaluating their requirements and capabilities to promote their well-being and rehabilitation. They conduct counseling sessions predominantly in group settings and occasionally one-on-one, lead educational activities, adhere to program guidelines when delivering content, handle case management duties, and help clients access care systems, all within a nurturing treatment atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Service

  • Facilitate education and group counseling sessions in residential, outpatient, or field depending on assignment and agency need.
  • Provide care coordination or case management as needed.
  • Occasionally facilitate individual counseling sessions as assigned.
  • Provide orientation to group treatment culture and norms.
  • Utilize trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and evidence-based practices.
  • Transport clients when assigned.
  • Assist clients in navigating systems of care.
  • Complete planned and unplanned urinalysis test with clients.

Treatment Setting

  • Work collaboratively with treatment team members.
  • Seek consultation and supervision for challenging clinical circumstances.
  • Provide a supportive treatment environment.
  • Ensure groups start and finish on time.
  • Ensure that clients maintain compliance with group attendance and expectations.

Documentation

  • Track client progress in group sessions.
  • Document UA test results.
  • Write and complete progress notes in a timely manner.
  • Maintain compliance with clinical documentation standards and policies.
  • Complete same day incident reports.

Administration And Other Duties

  • Maintain compliance with client care hours per week.
  • Arrange work schedule according to program needs.
  • Respond to emails when appropriate.
  • Participate in meetings, supervision, and training opportunities.
  • Complete assigned training in a timely manner.
  • Maintain credential compliance.

And perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Certification, or Licensure

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or other related field preferred.
  • Registration as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor from an accredited California agency (CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP).
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid California Driver’s License and access to registered and insured transportation.

Experience

  • Experience providing counseling sessions with individuals with co-occurring disorders. Group counseling experience highly preferred.

Competencies

  • Assessment and Evaluation. Ability to assess the needs and progress of group members, identify treatment goals, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Clinical Skills. Familiarity with various supportive counseling strategies and wellness and recovery principles in working with clients with mental health, substance abuse, or co-occurring conditions such as client-centered approach, strength-based approach, harm reduction, recovery model, and trauma-informed care.
  • Communication Skills. Effective in conveying information clearly and accurately through both oral and written channels.
  • Community Resources. Familiarity with the local community behavioral health and public health systems.
  • Computer Literacy. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and EHR systems preferred or ability to use the computer for training, documentation, responding to inquiries, etc.
  • Crisis Intervention. Capability to assess and manage crisis situations effectively, including implementing appropriate interventions to ensure client safety and stability during acute episodes.
  • Cultural Competence. Ability to interface well with diverse, disadvantaged populations including those with history of incarceration while withholding judgment. Understanding of how cultural factors influence substance use and recovery and adapting treatment approaches to meet the unique needs and preferences of diverse populations.
  • Empathy and Active Listening. Ability to empathize with clients' experiences, demonstrate active listening skills, and convey genuine understanding and acceptance in counseling interactions.
  • Group Facilitation Skills. Effectively lead group discussions, manage group dynamics, and create a safe and supportive environment for all group members.
  • Integrity and Ethics. Actively models the highest ethical standards. Honest and accountable. Maintain confidentiality. Always maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Teamwork. Accountable to the team and positively collaborate with other team members.
  • Bilingual preferred.
