About the Opportunity / A Day in the Life:

We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join a growing clinical research team in Peoria. Experienced APPs and new graduates are both encouraged to apply. This is a chance to build real expertise in specialty medicine while getting hands-on exposure to clinical research and emerging therapies.

Monday through Thursday, your focus is patient care and clinical research, working alongside physicians, experienced APPs, research coordinators, and other clinical professionals. You will evaluate and manage standard-of-care and research patients, provide follow-up care and patient education, participate in protocol-driven visits, and coordinate closely with the research team. A typical day runs about 14 patients, a mix of new consults and follow-ups.

Fridays are structured as a half-day focused on administrative work and charting, giving you protected time to finish documentation instead of taking it home.

As you grow in the role, you will gain deeper exposure to gastroenterology, hepatology, chronic hepatic disease, clinical trial protocols, and applicable in-clinic procedures. Experienced candidates may take on greater independence and Sub-Investigator responsibilities based on their background and qualifications.

For a new graduate, this is an opportunity to start your APP career in a specialized environment where you can develop both clinical and research skill with the support of an experienced multidisciplinary team.

Why This Role Stands Out:

  • New graduate NPs and PAs are welcome to apply
  • Friday half-day dedicated to administrative work and charting — protected documentation time, not take-home work
  • Build specialized experience in gastroenterology, hepatology, and chronic hepatic disease
  • Real exposure to clinical trials and research medicine alongside standard-of-care practice
  • Work with physicians, APPs, research coordinators, and other clinical professionals on one team
  • Develop greater clinical autonomy, including Sub-Investigator responsibilities, as your experience grows

What We’re Looking For:

  • An NP or PA motivated to build specialty clinical expertise
  • Strong clinical judgment and a genuine commitment to continued learning
  • Comfort working in a structured, protocol-driven environment
  • Organized and detail-oriented with clinical documentation
  • A strong communicator who works well with patients and multidisciplinary teams
  • Interest in gastroenterology, hepatology, chronic hepatic disease, and/or clinical research

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient evaluations, consultations, and follow-up visits under an appropriate level of clinical supervision.
  • Manage standard-of-care and clinical research patients within your established scope of practice.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, and available therapeutic options.
  • Participate in clinical trial visits and protocol-driven patient care.
  • Conduct appropriate medical and safety reviews for research participants based on training and assigned responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with physicians on diagnoses, treatment decisions, and complex patient needs.
  • Coordinate with research coordinators, recruiters, and other team members so study visits are completed accurately and on time.
  • Review clinical charts, source documentation, informed consent records, and study documentation.
  • Develop a thorough working knowledge of assigned clinical research protocols.
  • Perform applicable in-clinic procedures, including FibroScan, once appropriately trained and qualified.
  • Maintain timely, accurate clinical and research documentation.
  • Take on increasing responsibility for patient management and research activities as experience and competency develop.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Current or eligible NP or PA licensure in AZ
  • Appropriate national board certification
  • PA candidates must maintain applicable NCCPA certification
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative clinical environment
  • Willingness and ability to learn clinical research protocols and processes
  • Ability to complete required GCP and IATA training
  • Authorization to work in the United States

Preferred Background:

  • Previous gastroenterology or hepatology experience
  • Clinical research or clinical trial exposure
  • Experience with hepatology patient populations
  • Previous Sub-Investigator experience
  • Experience performing FibroScan procedures
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills

This Role Is Likely a Fit If You…

  • Are a new graduate looking to build a strong specialty foundation, or an experienced APP ready for a new challenge.
  • Want exposure to both direct patient care and clinical research.
  • Are interested in GI, hepatology, hepatic disease, or research medicine.
  • Enjoy learning and want to earn greater clinical independence over time.
  • Work well in a multidisciplinary environment with physicians, APPs, and research professionals.
  • Value a weekday schedule with dedicated Friday administrative and charting time.

This Role May Not Be a Fit If You…

  • Are not interested in clinical research or protocol-driven patient care.
  • Prefer a general primary care environment rather than specialty medicine.
  • Do not enjoy detailed clinical and research documentation.
  • Prefer a remote or hybrid position.
  • Would rather see a lighter daily schedule than roughly 14 patients Monday through Thursday.
  • Are not comfortable working on-site in Peoria.

Why Join Us:

Whether you are an experienced APP or just beginning your career, this position offers a rare combination of clinical, specialty, and research experience. You will work with complex patients, learn the clinical trial process from the inside, collaborate closely with an experienced multidisciplinary team, and keep a schedule that protects dedicated Friday time for charting and administrative work.

If you are a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant interested in specialty medicine and clinical research, please apply with your most updated Resume/CV — even if you are a new graduate or do not meet every preferred qualification. We look forward to meeting you!
