Position Overview

The Director of Co-Creation Practice is responsible for building, leading, and scaling HealthierHere Co-Creation & Technical Assistance into a sustainable, revenue-generating service line. The Director provides strategic leadership for practice development, business growth, methodology stewardship, consulting services, and organizational capacity building. This role translates HealthierHere proprietary co-creation methodology into market-ready services that advance community-centered systems change while strengthening the organization's long-term impact and financial sustainability.

This role requires a practitioner with deep expertise in co-creation and community-centered design, and the organizational development skills to develop an infrastructure of a consulting practice from the ground up, establish market positioning, operationalize the service line, and the judgment to hold the integrity of the methodology while navigating client priorities, competing timelines, and institutional power dynamics.

Key Responsibilities

Practice Leadership & Business Development

  • Drive publication and dissemination efforts establishing HH as a methodology leader in the field.
  • Build, launch, and lead HH’s Co-Creation Consulting & Technical Assistance service line, developing the organizational infrastructure, service offerings, pricing structure, and client engagement model from the ground up.
  • Develop and execute a business development strategy: identify target clients, build a consulting pipeline, and secure external contracts across government, health systems, academic, and nonprofit sectors.
  • Manage client relationships across the full engagement lifecycle, from proposal and scoping through delivery, evaluation, and close.
  • Track real cost, time, and capacity data from live engagements to produce evidence-based financial projections and inform the service line business plan and sustainability model.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to integrate co-creation into HH’s existing business lines, including Connect2 Technology, Super Hub, and statewide CIE.
  • Design and implement the strategic vision, annual operating plan, and growth strategy for the Co-Creation Practice, ensuring alignment with HealthierHere organizational priorities.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the practice's annual operating budget, ensuring sound financial stewardship, resource allocation, and long-term sustainability.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the practice, using data to evaluate client outcomes, financial performance, operational effectiveness, and organizational impact.
  • Monitor industry trends, client needs, and emerging opportunities to inform practice growth, service innovation, and competitive positioning.

Staff Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruit, develop, coach, and evaluate consulting practice staff, fostering a high performing, collaborative team while supporting distinguishing roles in training delivery, co-creation facilitation, and business development as the practice scales.
  • Design organizational capacity by integrating co-creation models, principles, tools, and practices across HH’s programs, operations, and cross-function initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain the Internal Co-Creation Playbook, which serves as the practitioner’s guide integrating the methodology, tools, SOPs, and facilitation scenarios drawn from live engagement experience,
  • Establish role-clarity frameworks that distinguish consulting functions from internal program staff functions as the practice grows.
  • Serve as a strategic leader within HealthierHere by contributing to cross-functional planning, organizational initiatives, and enterprise decision-making.

Certificate Training Program

  • Oversee the design, development, delivery, and iteration of HH’s co-creation certificate training program.
  • Develop training curriculum, facilitation guides, simulation exercises, and certification standards in collaboration with practice staff.
  • Establish and manage the pipeline of certified co-creation practitioners, with attention to volume, pricing, and long-term sustainability.
  • Identify which curriculum elements are ready for external delivery and which require further field-testing or development, iterating the program after each cohort.

Practice Dissemination & Thought Leadership

  • Lead publication efforts on HH’s co-creation methodology, producing white papers, peer-reviewed articles, and practitioner-facing resources that establish HH as a methodology leader in the field.
  • Represent HH at conferences, convenings, and peer networks presenting the methodology, building visibility, and generating referral relationships that feed the consulting pipeline.
  • Operationalize and sustain partnerships with peer organizations, academic institutions, and field leaders to advance both the methodology and HH’s market position.
  • Regularly contribute to the field’s understanding of what systems co-creation intermediaries do and why it matters for health equity.
Qualifications:
  • 8 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in community-centered design, organizational consulting, systems change, or a closely related discipline. Master’s degree in public health, public administration, social work, business administration or related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Proven success in building or leading a professional services practice, including business development, client management, and contract extension.
  • Demonstrated success designing and delivering training curriculum and adult learning programs; experience managing a certification or credentialing program preferred.
  • A proven track record of hiring, leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams within a consulting or professional services environment.
  • Strong experience working in health equity, social determinants of health, community health, or an adjacent field with deep understanding of the power dynamics, trust requirements, and accountability standards that community-centered work demands.
  • Proven success maintaining the integrity and fidelity of a methodology while effectively navigating client priorities, competing timelines, and complex political environments.
  • Strong experience publishing, presenting, or otherwise disseminating original methodology or practice knowledge in a professional or academic context.
  • Strong financial acumen: ability to track engagement costs, develop evidence-based pricing, and manage a practice towards positive cash flow.
  • Exceptional facilitation skills with demonstrated experience facilitating multi-stakeholder processes across power differentials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in business development, client acquisition, revenue generation, or growing consulting or professional services.
  • Experience working in a startup, early-stage, or rapidly growing organization, with the ability to build systems, establish processes, and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Experience in government contracting, grant management, or public-sector client relationships
  • Established presence in the health equity, co-design, or systems change field through publications, conference presentations, or peer network leadership.
  • Experience managing a certification or credentialing program.
