Responsibilities
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including grooming, hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration when trained and authorized.
- Support clients in developing social skills and managing behaviors through positive reinforcement and behavior management techniques.
- Operate a standard passenger car safely to transport clients to appointments, community activities, or home visits, ensuring client safety at all times.
- Engage with clients using effective communication skills, including American Sign Language if applicable, to promote understanding and connection.
- Collect data on client progress and behavior for documentation purposes and coordinate with team members to update care plans accordingly.
- Provide home and community care support by assisting with household tasks, recreational activities, and community outings.
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to health and safety protocols such as first aid and CPR procedures when necessary.
Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with autism, neurodevelopmental disorders, or developmental disabilities is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of special education principles and behavioral health strategies is a strong asset.
- Ability to operate a vehicle safely for personal transportation assistance or client outings; valid driver’s license required.
- Familiarity with medication administration procedures (training provided if needed).
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
- Background in social work, caregiving, or related fields is advantageous; experience in social services or home & community care is desirable.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with compassion while maintaining professionalism.
