What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Frontend & Analytics Engineer position at HealthGrowth Pharmacy Solutions, LLC?
Web Portal, Embedded Power BI, TypeScript & Data Visualization
HealthGrowth Pharmacy Solutions | Austin, TX (on-site) | Full-time
About the role
HealthGrowth Pharmacy Solutions provides business and operational expertise to help independent pharmacies run more profitably. We are building a cloud analytics platform that gives independent pharmacy owners clear visibility into the economics of their business — turning complex purchasing and contract data into decisions they can act on.
The backend calculation engine and Microsoft Fabric data platform are in place and staffed. We are hiring the engineer who owns everything the customer and our internal teams actually see and touch.
This is a senior, hands-on role with broad ownership of the presentation layer: a customer and staff portal built in Next.js, and the analytics serving layer that powers it. The stack includes Power BI semantic models with row-level security, TypeScript, and Power BI Embedded — with customers able to upload data and interact with reports directly inside the portal.
You will work on-site in Austin alongside a small, fast-moving team that uses AI-assisted development heavily, with strong review gates and a test-first culture. The ideal candidate is comfortable owning a surface end to end: from a DAX measure, through the embed token, to the React component and its Playwright test.
What you'll own
- The customer and staff portal — a TypeScript / Next.js (App Router, React server components) application covering secure sign-in, dashboards, file upload workflows, a staff operations console, analysis recommendations, and a repricing workflow.
- Embedded analytics — Initially, Power BI reports embedded in the portal, backed by Direct Lake semantic models with row-level security by pharmacy, so each customer sees only their own data. Expecting to ultimately utilize TypeScript for presentation.
- The visualization layer — report design (rebate waterfalls, compliance-ratio trends, buy-away threshold explorers with interactive slicers), semantic-model measures in DAX, and the T-SQL serving views that feed them.
- Presentation-layer correctness — our financial figures are computed once, in a validated engine; the UI formats but never recomputes. You enforce that discipline, along with WCAG AA accessibility and complete empty/loading/error states on every page.
- Quality and delivery — Vitest unit tests, Playwright end-to-end journeys against a hermetic mock API, and CI/CD through GitHub Actions to Azure App Service.
Required skills & experience
- 5–8 years of professional frontend / full-stack engineering, with deep, current TypeScript and React expertise, including Next.js App Router, server components, and route handlers.
- Enterprise authentication: OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect auth-code PKCE flows, MSAL, and Microsoft Entra ID — ideally including Entra External ID (CIAM) for customer identity. You understand confidential-client and server-side session patterns and why the browser should never hold an access token.
- Power BI at a professional level: authoring reports and semantic models, writing DAX measures, and configuring row-level security (and ideally object-level security) mapped to security groups.
- Power BI embedded analytics: app-owns-data embedding in a web application, embed tokens, and making RLS hold up end to end from model to iframe.
- SQL / T-SQL: comfortable writing and maintaining the serving views a semantic model sits on.
- Data-visualization judgment: you know how to present financial and ratio metrics honestly (weighted ratios, not averaged percentages), design for drill-down, and keep dashboards fast and legible.
- Testing and CI discipline: unit testing (Vitest/Jest), end-to-end testing with Playwright, and pipelines in GitHub Actions. A feature without its test is not done here.
- Security-first habits: secrets in a vault, never in code; least-privilege thinking; care with sensitive healthcare-adjacent data.
- Accessibility: working knowledge of WCAG AA and how to meet it in practice with our websites.
Nice to have
- Microsoft Fabric: lakehouse/warehouse concepts, Direct Lake mode, TMDL / PBIR source formats, and deployment pipelines. Our BI assets live in git, not in click-ops.
- Azure platform: App Service, Key Vault with managed identity, Bicep, Application Insights.
- Enough Python to read a FastAPI backend and its Pydantic contracts.
- Tailwind CSS (we use v4) and modern component-driven styling.
- Domain exposure: pharmacy, healthcare, PBM/wholesaler, or fintech analytics; familiarity with HIPAA/PHI handling concepts.
- AI-assisted development: experience directing coding agents / AI pair-programmers and reviewing their output critically.
- Load and performance testing (k6), and streaming/file-upload UX patterns.
How we work
- On-site in Austin, TX, on a small senior team with a large degree of individual ownership.
- Managed Azure services over custom infrastructure; everything as code, everything through pull requests and CI, including Power BI assets.
- Strict review gates around financial calculation logic: the calculation engine is validated and frozen; the presentation layer never re-derives its numbers.
- Uploads, reports, and deliverables will all flow through the portal and governed storage. This is a constraint you'll help design great UX around.
How to apply
Include your resume and, ideally, links to work we can look at such as a production app you owned the frontend of, a Power BI model or report you're proud of, or a public git repo.
A short note on the most interesting embedded-analytics or data-visualization problem you've solved counts for more than a cover letter. You know you're awesome, don't be afraid to share.
