What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scrub Tech First Assist position at Healthcare Outcomes Performance Co. (HOPCo)?
Essential Functions
- Assists the surgical team during operative procedures as assigned by the APP or physician.
- Provides direct assistance to the surgeon and/or APP by holding retractors, assisting with tissue manipulation, and performing basic tasks under supervision during surgeries.
- Actively participates in the planning and set up of supplies needed for the procedure.
- Assist in the proper handling, passing, and maintenance of surgical instruments, ensuring all equipment is sterile and in good working condition.
- Assists the surgical team in maintaining patient safety through monitoring sterile techniques during draping as well as throughout the surgical procedure.
- Maintains universal precautions in daily job duties.
- Maintains confidentiality of all patients.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings.
- High school diploma/GED required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Surgical Technologist certification preferred.
- Surgical First Assistant certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Minimum one-year experience in surgery or equivalent of education and experience. Experience in orthopedics is preferred.
- Experience with computer software is required.
- Knowledge of outpatient procedure room policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of patient safety standards.
- Knowledge of surgical equipment and supplies.
- Knowledge of universal precautions and sterile techniques.
- Skill in effective participation on a surgical team.
- Skill in safety and infection control procedures by appropriately setting up a sterile procedure room and monitoring instrument use.
- Skill in computer applications and EMR systems.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Ability to interact with physicians, patients, and team members.
- Ability to communicate pertinent information to the RN, APP, and surgeon.
- Ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills.
- Normal inpatient and outpatient hospital environment.
- Some travel within the community.
- Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment.
- Some lifting and physical exertion may be required.
- Some bending and stretching are required.
- Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard.
