Job Summary
Health Solutions of Maryland is expanding its behavioral health programs, including OP, IOP, PHP, and ASAM 3.1 Residential services. We are hiring 8 motivated and compassionate Substance Use Counselors to join our growing clinical team. ADTs, CSC-ADs, and CAC-ADs are all encouraged to apply.
In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive addiction counseling, mental health support, and clinical assessments for individuals struggling with substance use disorders. You will help clients develop effective coping strategies, meet recovery goals, and improve overall well-being. Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including diagnostic evaluations and intake interviews, to determine treatment needs and develop personalized care plans.
- Deliver individual and group counseling sessions utilizing techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy to promote recovery and behavioral change.
- Facilitate family and child counseling sessions when appropriate, supporting holistic recovery efforts within the patient's support system.
- Manage crisis situations with effective crisis intervention strategies, ensuring patient safety and stabilization during acute episodes.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate case management, discharge planning, and community-based services for seamless patient care.
- Stay current with research developments in addiction medicine, mental health counseling, and behavioral health practices to enhance treatment effectiveness.
Experience
- Proven experience in addiction counseling or clinical mental health counseling within hospital or community care settings.
- Familiarity with crisis management techniques and crisis intervention protocols.
- Hands-on experience with home & community care programs, hospital environments, or PTSD care is highly desirable.

What You’ll Do
- Complete client intakes, screenings, and ASAM assessments
- Facilitate group and individual counseling sessions
- Develop and update person-centered treatment plans
- Provide crisis intervention and case management support
- Document all services same day in ICANotes
- Participate in weekly Treatment Team Meetings
- Support rehabilitation and life-skills services in 3.1 Residential programming
What We’re Looking For
- Knowledge of DSM-5 substance use criteria
- Strong communication and clinical documentation skills
- Ability to engage clients therapeutically and manage crises
- Familiarity with Maryland behavioral health resources (preferred)
Education & Licensure
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred
- CSC-AD or CAC-AD through the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors & Therapists.
Accepted / Considered:
- ADT – Alcohol and Drug Trainee
ADT applicants must:
- Hold active trainee status with the Maryland Board.
- Be able to meet all supervision requirements, including weekly clinical supervision.
- Participate in HSOM’s structured training protocols, including group facilitation training, documentation training, and clinical shadowing.
- Be actively pursuing licensure (CSC-AD or CAC-AD) and demonstrate ongoing progress toward educational and supervised experience requirements.
