Role Description
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Dental Services provides strategic leadership, clinical oversight, and operational management of the dental department.
This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered dental care, compliance with all regulatory and funding requirements, and alignment with the health center’s mission to provide accessible and comprehensive care to all. The Director of Dental Services serves as both a practicing dentist and an administrative leader.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide direct patient care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, preventive services, and emergency dental treatment.
· Ensure clinical protocols and standards of care align with ADA, HRSA, state dental practice regulations, and evidence-based best practices.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement (QA/QI) initiatives
- Participate in UDS reporting related to dental measures.
- Monitor provider productivity, performance, and adherence to established clinical benchmarks.
- Direct and manage daily operations of the dental department, including scheduling, workflows, staffing, and equipment utilization.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate department policies, procedures, and performance standards.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to develop strategic plans, expand services, and support integrated medical-dental initiatives.
- Develop and manage the dental budget, including supplies, staffing, equipment maintenance, capital projects, and grant-related expenditures.
- Ensure proper documentation, billing accuracy, compliance with Medicaid/Medicare guidelines, and efficient revenue cycle practices.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, CDC infection control standards, and state regulatory requirements.
- Ensure timely completion of incident reports, risk assessments, and corrective action plans as needed.
- Support community outreach initiatives, including school-based programs and partnerships that improve access to dental care.
- Assist in developing proposals for grants and special projects that expand dental services or improve patient outcomes.
- Work in both clinical and administrative office settings.
- Travel between clinic sites, community events, and professional meetings.
Qualifications:
Required
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited institution
- Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Kansas
- CPR/BLS certification
- Kansas DEA registration
- Approval of Kansas Charitable Care Provider Application
- Knowledge of public health principles and practices
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
· Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges
Preferred
- At least five (5) years of experience as a practicing Dentist
- At least three (3) years of experience in a leadership role
- Experience working in a community health center or public health environment
- Experience managing budgets and multi-site operations
Typical Physical Demands:
- Prolonged sitting or standing may be required
- Ability to lift to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 60 pounds
- Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination normally associated with work in the dental field
- Work under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required
- Frequent exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation, and other conditions common to a clinical environment may routinely be encountered
