Sterile Processing Technician - Evening Shift

Role Overview

This position involves supporting sterile processing operations, ensuring the proper cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, and assembly of surgical instruments and equipment. The technician may lead department activities in the absence of the SPD Manager, organize workflows, and oversee staff training and competency testing. Collaboration with OR personnel and department staff is essential to maintain smooth operations, accurate documentation, and effective troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, sort, clean, and decontaminate reusable instruments per manufacturer guidelines, logging items manually.
• Operate cleaning and sterilization machinery, including washers and pasteurizers.
• Inspect, assemble, sterilize, and prepare surgical trays, monitoring sterilization parameters.
• Lead department tasks and workflow management when needed.
• Maintain updated knowledge through ongoing education and participate in hospital committees.
• Assist with staff training, competency assessments, and serve as charge person.
• Communicate effectively with staff and OR personnel to ensure operational efficiency.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and support decision-making.
  
  

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Minimum of three years of sterile processing experience.
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification required.
• Must obtain Certified Endoscopy Reprocessor (CER) certification within one year if not already held.
• Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) preferred.
