Overview

Health Management Associates is looking for a Vice President of Finance reporting directly to the CFO to support our finance and accounting teams.  This position is being recruited with a strong preference for location in the greater Chicago area.

We support providers, payers, local/ State/and federal government agencies, technology companies, large delivery systems and foundations in improving the publicly funded healthcare system. HMA hires individuals who have lived and breathed the challenges of our clients, led healthcare organizations, provided direct clinical care, designed healthcare policy at all levels of government, and provided thought leadership to the entire sector. The delivery system teams within HMA support health and hospital systems, primary care providers including Federally Qualified Health Centers, managed care organizations, vendor groups, and many others as they navigate the complex spaces of delivery system reform and transformation.  This includes key trends such as alternative payment models, value-based measures, complex care management, strategic planning and integration of community-based partners into comprehensive systems of care.  We support our clients from the initial planning stages through the development of successful funding and revenue maximation analyses, through detailed implementation, turnaround management and restructuring to ensure long-term sustainability. We also have extensive experience with behavioral health integration and strategic planning.  

 

Job Summary

The Vice President, Finance (VP-F) plays a critical role in driving financial discipline, business growth, and profitability initiatives enterprise wide. This position is responsible for all areas of financial planning and analysis, M&A analysis and integration, and strategic planning. The VP-F translates financial information into key performance metrics providing management with line of sight to current and future business success. As part of a total finance & accounting team, the VP-F also is responsible for providing financial information, insight and recommendations to the CFO, executive management, and functional leadership. The VP-F is a senior financial manager focusing on the firm’s ability to achieve near-term targets and analyzing its progress in meeting those targets and adjustments to strategy or operations required to achieve financial goals and objectives. This individual will have a strong understanding of cash management, financial statements, and the balance between operations, finance and FP&A. We also see a multifaceted individual who can roll-up their sleeves and work effectively with a broad range of people from the finance and operations teams to lenders and other professionals.

Responsibilities

 

Work Performed

  • Drive accountability by providing financial performance reports built on key business metrics for all internal and external stakeholders, including operations and executive leadership.
  • Build and ensure accuracy of short-term and long-term financial planning.
  • Ensure alignment of strategic and operational planning, developing policies, processes, timelines, tools and communications.
  • Provide consultation to internal business leaders to support decision making and drive operational improvements, including pricing and profitability.
  • Lead financial reporting efforts for monthly reviews, private equity partners, Board of Director presentations, operational reporting, lender covenant compliance and numerous ad hoc reporting requests.
  • Proactively identify business risks and opportunities enterprise wide.
  • Play a key role with M&A analytics, including operational and financial due diligence, deal financing and business integration.
  • Develop strong relations by proactively meeting with key leaders across the business.
  • Provide exceptional team leadership with a focus on employee engagement, development, and attracting top talent into the organization.

Qualifications

Education/Training

At a minimum, the Vice President, Finance must have an undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or economics. A master’s degree and/or Certified Public Accountant license is strongly preferred.

 

Experience

At least 15 years in various finance/executive leadership roles in a variety of professional services and health care related businesses.  Required competencies include financial management, business acumen, communication proficiency, ethical conduct, leadership, performance management, credibility, problem solving/analysis, strategic thinking, and technical capacity. Experience with private equity backed organizations, and leveraged companies preferred.

Working Conditions

Work is sedentary in nature and performed in an office environment.  Frequent travel to client sites and HMA offices.  Involves frequent contact with staff and clients.  Work may be stressful at times.  Requires up to 10% travel.

 

Physical/Mental Demands

Work requires hand dexterity for office machine operation; stooping, climbing, and bending to files and supplies; mobility to complete errands; stand/sit for up to eight hours each day; ability to communicate clearly when using the telephone; requires sitting; standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and twisting at times; moderate levels of stress.
