Exercise Tech - ProHealth

POSITION SUMMARY:

To be fully engaged in providing No Harm / Quality, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by: Servicing 

the needs of the members through orientations, education, instruction, and evaluation in the area of 

health and fitness.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Quality/No Harm: 

• Responsible for providing new members orientation to include but, not limited to :

1. teaching/ explaining the principles and guidelines to exercise
2. set-up and demonstration on all types of exercise equipment
3. proper lifting techniques
4. explain heart rate range, age predicted and RPE
5. explain the FITT principle to exercise

• Must be able to demonstrate (according to department standards) the ability to handle an emergency code.
• Must be competent in the handling of a real code in regard to BLS and the use of the AED and oxygen. 
• Must show the ability to handle the code alone if necessary.
• Will assist with wellness screenings.
• Will be responsible for opening and closing the facility.
• Will be responsible for monitoring blood pressures.
• While working the Cardiovascular area Tech will be responsible for circulating the Heart Rate monitor every 15 minutes.
• Works assigned station reviewing all members workout cards while in station.
• Responsible for cleaning designated area daily.
• Checks on positioning of equipment and arranges throughout the day when equipment is out of place.
• Assists in maintaining the pool area, picking up and cleaning when necessary.
• Assist in maintaining storage rooms, pump rooms and equipment rooms.
• Assist at the front desk when necessary.
• Locker room checks are to be done every hour during designated shift with a minimum of 2 per shift during a 4 hour shifts. This includes but is not limited to:

1. Picking up soiled towels, and exchanging the bin.
2. Checking on soap, and replacing when necessary.
3. Checking on all paper products, and replacing when necessary.
4. Wiping down all counter tops.
5. Maintaining and cleaning the shower when necessary.
6. Checking that the shower curtains are hung properly and checking for mildew.
7. Maintaining and cleaning the Spa when necessary. 
8. Fill eucalyptus in sauna.
9. Vacuuming the carpet when necessary.
10. Responsible for washing laundry, and folding towels when necessary
11. Ensuring everyone’s safety in the locker rooms and enforcing the policies.

Customer Experience:

• Will be responsible for conducting facility tours according to scripted guidelines.
• Will score in the 90th percentile on the orientation survey card.
• Will greet all members working out on the floor or leaving
• Will be available to assist members at all times and will remain in their assigned areas
• Will correct bad form and give suggestions to improve their workouts
• Will put up at least 1 fitness article per year for members benefit
• Wellness Talks: FT 6 per year, PT 3 per year, PD 1 per year

Stewardship: 

• Maintains equipment keeping them clean and in good working order to prolong life of the equipment.
• Trouble shoots maintenance issues and reports any maintenance issues that cannot be fixed by staff.
• Efficient use of cleaning supplies
• Efficient use of exercise supplies 
• Stays within allotted FTE’s-Not clocking in prior to 6 minutes before their regularly scheduled shift. Cannot go over 40 hours in one pay week. 
• Must work a minimum of 36 hrs FT or 20 hrs PT.
• Breaks: Meal breaks are given to associates that work more than 5.5 hours. Associates must clock out and in for their break. Must be clocked out for a minimum of 28 minutes unless instructed by management to clock in sooner. Any associate that takes a short break will face disciplinary actions. 
• Relaxation breaks are optional and not required by law to give for associates that work a minimum of 4 hours.
• They must get permission from the Lead and or Supervisor and are only permitted if the work load is slow and does not affect customer care or safety. 10 minutes only.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Must be certified by a Pro-Health recognized certification agency or Bachelor’s in Exercise Science. (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA, NASM)
• Must have good personality and enjoy working with different populations.
• Must have strong customer service skills.
• Must hold current American Heart Association’s Heartsaver CPR & AED program Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be capable of standing for long periods of time. Cannot sit in front of members unless working with a member.
• Must be in good physical condition and capable of lifting in excess of 50lbs.
• Must practice a Healthy lifestyle.

• Must be capable of making safe and proper judgments.
• Must possess a strong work ethic.
• Must be capable of performing multiple concurrent tasks while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Must be able to interact with a variety of individuals and personalities.
