Clinical Staff Pharmacist - Pharmacy

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Clinical Staff Pharmacist fills orders for oral, parenteral, and enteral medications, monitors patient drug therapies, and provides drug information while complying with the laws governing the practice of inpatient pharmacy. 

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES  

1. Interprets medication orders (verbal and written) and transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles accurately; maintains accurate, complete patient medication profiles, and reads, extracts, and interprets information in patient records, as appropriate. 
2. Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals, including sterile, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products accurately.  
3. Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law, and monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of drug and dose; detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions accurately and in a timely manner.  
4. Reviews and interprets culture and susceptibility data for antibiotic appropriateness and recommends changes, as needed.  
5. Documents all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely, ensuring to maintains patient and department/hospital confidentiality, and provide drug information and education to patients and their families. 
6. Participates in the quality improvement and medication use review activities of the department. Collects data; conducts quality monitors and inspections; and maintains log, records, and other documentation as assigned.  
7. Leads pharmacy support personnel, verifying the daily activities of pharmacy technicians; participates in the development and presentation of orientation, education, and training programs to the pharmacy, medical, nursing, and other Associates. 
8. Answers the telephone, identifying self and department; directs calls to appropriate personnel, as well as, answers requests at the window; keeps pharmacy areas and equipment clean, neat, and well organized.  
9. Sustains the formulary by minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic protocols and promoting rational drug therapy selection.  
10. Provides clinical clarification to practitioners, and suggests appropriate, cost effective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff, as needed. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (BPharm). 
• Work Experience: None 
• Licensure: Pharmacist licensure in the State of Florida. 
• Certification: Any one of the following prior to start date and maintained: 

1. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card OR 
2. American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (AHA ACLS), AND Pediatric Life Support (PALS). 

• Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: 

1. Ability to work independently. 
2. Patience, positive attitude, cooperation, work well with others, friendly, problem-solving skills, analytical skills, attention to detail-thoroughness. 
3. Attention to accuracy, organized, good communications skills (orally and in writing), ability to handle and work well under stress. 
4. Good listening skills, good social skills, perform multiple tasks at one time, and are able to make quick accurate decisions. 
5. Ability to evaluate medical literature. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

• Education: Doctorate’s degree in Pharmacy (PharmD). 
• Work Experience: Six (6) months experience in hospital pharmacy experience. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently. 
• May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.  
• May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead. 
• May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift. 
• May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.  
• May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines. 
• Communicating with others to exchange information. 
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks. 
• Workspace may vary from open to confined. 
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
