Job Responsibilities
- Perform clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, collecting specimens, and assisting with procedures, always within the LPN scope of practice and under supervision when required
- Administer medications safely and accurately, utilizing knowledge of pharmacology and following UHS policies and current clinical standards
- Educate patients and their families on health promotion, disease prevention, and management strategies, as directed by a provider or registered nurse
- Support and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards including Joint Commission, NYS Department of Health, and infection control protocols
- Perform CLIA‐waived laboratory testing, including quality control procedures, documentation, and participation in tri‐annual AAFP proficiency testing
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record system to support patient safety and care coordination
- Participate in department‐specific credentialing and lab validations as required by practice standards and regulations
- Collaborate with providers, RNs, and the broader care team to coordinate patient care and promote positive health outcomes
- Assist with front office functions such as scheduling, patient intake, and communication of clinical instructions when appropriate
- Actively engage in Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives by reviewing data, offering feedback, and implementing changes to enhance care quality
- Maintain clinical competency by participating in ongoing training, in‐services, and educational opportunities
- Uphold a culture of patient‐centered care by contributing to a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all individuals
- Minimum Required:
- Graduated an accredited school of Practical Nursing
- Current New York State Practical Nurse License, a Limited Permit, or ability to practice within the 90 day grace period allowed by New York State guidelines
- Preferred:
- Basic Skills Certifications (CPR)
- Work is performed in an office environment and patient care areas which require working in proximity to other employees and patients. Rooms are air conditioned and heated.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, pushing, and lifting.
- Fast paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Exposure to equipment cleaning solutions and disinfectants.
- PPE (Eyewear, Masks, Face shields, Shoe covers, and Gloves) as required by UHS Hospitals Infection Control policies.
