Job Title: Pharmacy Coordinator

Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Director/Assistant of Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacy Coordinator – Controlled Substance and Sterile Products provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care by collaborating closely with the pharmacy and nursing teams. This role primarily involves offering clinical, dispensing, and regulatory guidance related to controlled substances and sterile product practices. Responsibilities include establishing new workflows, implementing quality assurance measures, maintaining accurate records, and overseeing equipment maintenance in the IV room and C11 safe. The Coordinator may also perform IV Pharmacist duties as needed.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Adhere to Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors; ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations concerning controlled substance receipt, storage, dispensing, record-keeping, and monitoring.
- Oversee all aspects of sterile products preparation, including stability and sterility dating, environmental controls, equipment maintenance, and documentation.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical and department services aligned with hospital and accreditation standards.
- Manage the overall operations of the IV area and C11 safe, including goal setting, personnel management, aseptic technique monitoring, quality assurance, and compliance with Joint Commission and regulatory standards.
- Develop, revise, and ensure adherence to policies related to IV and controlled substance services.
- Provide daily staffing and supervision, including oversight of the Cancer Center Pharmacy in the absence of the department manager.
- Oversee sterile product preparation, ensuring safety and compliance with standards, especially regarding hazardous drugs and spills.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare team members to optimize patient care.
- Ensure employee competency and ongoing education in accordance with hospital policies.
- Participate in Performance Improvement initiatives and hospital committees as appropriate.
- Contribute data and workflow feedback to support opioid stewardship and drug diversion programs.
- Develop and monitor metrics for safe and effective opioid and analgesic management.
- Maintain knowledge of sterile products operations, equipment, and environmental controls.
- Foster collaboration across interdisciplinary teams and promote a team-oriented environment within the pharmacy and hospital.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service, positive employee relations, and professionalism.
- Support hospital initiatives and serve as a role model, mentor, and resource for staff.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited institution.
- Valid New York State Pharmacist License and registration.
- 2-3 years of hospital experience managing sterile products preferred.
- Minimum of five years recent experience as a licensed pharmacist in an acute hospital setting.
