Shift Details: Days

Description: This position located in North Charleston, SC. This is scheduled to be for the 26-27 school year.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Interpret classroom instruction, activities, and discussions between ASL and spoken English.
• Provide interpretation during classes, meetings, conferences, assemblies, and school events.
• Facilitate effective communication among students, teachers, peers, and staff.
• Review lesson plans and materials to ensure accurate interpretation.
• Adapt interpreting techniques to students’ communication needs and abilities.
• Support IEP implementation and participate in IEP meetings.
• Support students’ academic, vocabulary, social, and communication development.
• Accurately convey message content, tone, and intent while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Collaborate with teachers and special education teams to promote student progress and an inclusive learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or completion of a sign language interpreter training program
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English
• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA score ~3.2–3.5 or higher)
• Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing (preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• National certification (RID – Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf)
• Prior experience in a school or educational setting
• Knowledge of deaf culture and language development

Skills & Competencies

• Strong receptive and expressive ASL interpreting skills
• Ability to interpret accurately in real time
• Knowledge of educational terminology and curriculum
• Collaboration and communication skills
• Adaptability to different student learning styles
