We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Needs Caregiver to provide personalized care and support to individuals with diverse needs, including developmental disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and age-related conditions. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those requiring assistance with daily activities, health monitoring, and emotional support. You will play a vital role in implementing care plans, assisting with personal care, and ensuring the well-being of each individual under your care. Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using manual handling techniques such as Hoyer lifts and patient transfer methods
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and observe for any changes in health status; communicate findings effectively to healthcare teams
  • Administer medications accurately following prescribed care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations to ensure privacy and confidentiality
  • Support residents with meal preparation, feeding assistance, and nutritional needs tailored to individual dietary requirements
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to promote mental well-being; engage residents in social activities and therapeutic exercises
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties and ensuring proper infection control practices in accordance with healthcare standards
  • Assist with transportation needs for appointments or community outings; support residents in maintaining independence within their community

Experience

  • Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health settings is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in patient observation, monitoring vital signs, medication administration, and implementing care plans
  • Knowledge of dementia care, Alzheimer’s care, memory care techniques, and hospice or palliative care practices
  • Familiarity with caring for individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, or neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Hands-on experience with patient transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts; manual handling skills for heavy lifting and patient transfers
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy; experience working within legal and ethical standards of healthcare delivery
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare professionals; experience providing direct support in home or community settings
  • Certifications such as CPR/First Aid are required; additional certifications related to geriatrics or specialized care are a plus
