Healdsburg Unified is seeking candidates interested in sub custodial work. Up to 8 hours/day, and could include day or evening shifts. Post-offer, pre-employment physical is required, as is DOJ fingerprinting and TB clearance. JOB DESCRIPTION
CUSTODIAN
SUMMARY
To perform a wide variety of tasks in the cleaning and upkeep of assigned school facilities. A Custodian is expected to perform assigned duties with only occasional instruction or assistance. Judgment is sometimes required pertaining to when and how established procedures or guidelines are to be applied. Adequate performance at this level requires the application of knowledge of departmental policies and practices.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by the Lead Maintenance personnel or School Principal. Technical or functional supervision may be provided by a Lead Custodian. No supervision is exercised over other District personnel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are typical duties and responsibilities for positions in this classification. Any single position may not perform all of these tasks, and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed below.
· Sweep, mop, strip, and polish floors.
· Vacuum rugs and carpets.
· Dust, clean, and polish furniture.
· Clean and empty waste containers.
· Wash windows and walls.
· Clean, scrub, disinfect, and replenish supplies in rest rooms.
· Move and arrange furniture and equipment and set up facilities for special events and meetings.
· Inspect the grounds for safety hazards.
· May perform maintenance on equipment and tools used when performing duties.
· Replace light bulbs.
· Install and repair combination and dead bolt locks.
· May perform basic roof repair.
· May participate in the refinishing of wood floors.
· May perform basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing duties.
· May perform basic repair to the sprinkler system.
· Adjust thermostats and lighting.
· Open and secure school premises when appropriate.
· Clean up litter from grounds and hallways.
· Drive a truck for pick-up and delivery of equipment and supplies.
· Paint the interior and exterior of school structures.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Knowledge of:
· Standard custodial cleaning methods and supplies.
· Safe work practices.
· Operational and procedural methods of school custodial work.
Ability to:
· Perform heavy lifting, stooping, reaching, and climbing ladders.
· Carry out oral or written instructions and assignments.
· Operate cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment.
· Work independently or cooperatively as necessary.
· Adjust work routine and speed as necessary.
· Utilize plumbing, carpentry, and painting tools.
· Work independently, performing assigned duties with a minimum of supervision.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities could be:
Experience:
· One year of experience performing routine custodial duties.
Education:
· High School Diploma or equivalent.
License Requirement:
· Must maintain a valid clear Class C California Drivers License for the duration of employment by the District.
· Must be insurable at standard rates by the District's liability insurer for the duration of employment by the District.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
