What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chariton Head Start - Nutrition Assistant position at Head Start?
SCICAP Early Childhood Program is seeking a professional candidate for a Nutrition Assistant for our Chariton Head Start location. The Nutrition Assistant position will work in partnership the Nutrition Specialist to support nutritional activities in the center. Duties will include assisting the nutrition specialist, following approved menus, maintaining a sanitary work environment, and other duties as needed.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Follow approved menus, which meet daily nutritional requirement
- Keep count of meals served
- Work closely with nutrition manager, classrooms staff, children and parents
- Prepare all meals and snacks according to approved menus and CACFP guidelines
· Involve children in nutrition program
- Serve family-style meals
- Introduce new foods
- Setting tables and cleaning up after meals
· Maintain a sanitary work environment and kitchen
- Follow good personal hygiene practices
1. Hair restraints, required
2. Wash hands thoroughly and often
3. Wear clean clothing and aprons
4. Cover cuts and sores. Then cover bandages with a glove.
5. Clean and trim fingernails
6. No jewelry
· Keep food preparation area clean and sanitized
· Keep all equipment clean and sanitized
· Be aware of and follow the daily/weekly/monthly cleaning schedule
· Keep accurate and up-to-date records

- Cleaning Checklists
- Food productions sheets
- Maintain standardized recipes
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Must have current physical for start of employment and then every three years
· No personal record regarding child abuse, sexual abuse or neglect
· Must pass criminal record check to be employed (DCI)
· Must be 18 years of age
· Required fingerprinting every four years
EDUCATION
· High School Diploma or equivalent
