What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher Assistant Worcester Head Start position at Head Start Program?
1.Design and implement a weekly lesson plan that aligns with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Frameworks, Worcester Public Schools Scope & Sequence, 2nd Step Scope & Sequence, and individualizes specific skills and interests of children.
2.Assist teacher in ensuring that learning centers are prepared with purposeful and differentiated activities before the children's daily arrival. All classroom centers are open and ready for children to use by 9:00 am.
3.Plan and implement purposeful small group differentiated instruction which includes language/literacy, math, science and social studies.
4.Have an awareness of all aspects of a child's mental, nutritional and physical health through the following:
•Promote oral hygiene by assisting children with tooth-brushing.
•Assist children with toileting when necessary.
•Promote self-help skills including serving meals in a family style setting.
5.Work cooperatively with teacher, classroom aide, volunteers and parents.
6.Prepare classroom cooperatively with teacher, including arranging and labeling furniture and materials and maintaining postings in accordance with program guidelines.
7.Ensure that daily sign in/out book is accurately maintained.
8.Communicate between home and school through written correspondence, email, home visits, parent conferences and phone calls. Copies of all communication to be kept in the child’s education folder.
9.Maintain an active Worcester Public Schools email account, as assigned. Any change of password must be noted on email form kept in the Center Coordinator’s office.
10.Maintain classroom environment that is safe, clean, and welcoming.
11.Classroom observations conducted by Center Coordinator reflect CLASS scores that meet or exceed the national median domain scores
12.Assist teacher to prepare floor plan.
13.Assist teacher in compiling inventory.
14.Meet the a.m. bus upon arrival and greet/welcome children and families as they enter the classroom.
15.Ensure that children are accounted for when leaving the classroom and that children have safely boarded the bus upon departure.
16.Greet/Welcome families when they enter the classroom upon pick-up.
17.Actively engage and supervise children during activity periods inside and outside of the classroom, including during transitions, at the gym, playground, STEAM rooms, bathrooms, etc
18.Support all children in a sensitive, positive, and consistent manner.
19.Attend meetings, as required.
20.Participate in on-going communication between disciplines relative to the needs of the children.
21.Effectively utilize Head Start curriculum and center resources in planning for children.
22.Maintain accurate professional and up-to-date documentation on each child and ensure that it is placed in his/her file.
23.Complete observations for each child to be reflected on assessment tool, in a timely manner (for each assessment cycle ¼ of indicators documented in first 2 weeks, ½ of indicators documented within 4 weeks ¾ of indicators documented within 6 weeks, all indicators documented by the end of assessment cycle.)
24.File and maintain observations in an organized and orderly fashion (to be done each week).
25.Complete assessment and outcome measures by end of November, February, and May.
26.Complete two home visits per child per year, and a minimum of two parent conferences per child per year and complete necessary documentation.
27.When required to perform bus monitor duties, adhere to responsibilities of bus monitor job description (training for all new staff required).
28.Participate as directed by center coordinator, or other supervisor, as part of a crisis team in "Fire Drill/ Evacuation Plan" or as part of any other support position.
29.Assist teacher at the end of the school year with cleaning furniture and all materials used during past school year.
