What are the responsibilities and job description for the NUTRITION ADVOCATE position at Head Start (Murray)?
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for assisting in the implementation of all aspects of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to all participating sites served by Murray Head Start. This position works collaboratively with the Nutrition Services team, management staff, Family Services staff, and school district partnership personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED. Knowledge of CACFP/USDA regulations is preferred. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills and basic computer proficiency. Good organizational skills are necessary. Must be able to lift/move food and supplies (e.g., 25-60 lbs). A current valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to carry out duties with minimal supervision.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
NUTRITION / FOOD SERVICE:
- Maintain familiarity with the guidelines of CACFP.
- Monitor attendance reports weekly for accuracy in reporting meals/snacks claimed.
- Assist with maintaining up-to-date list of children’s allergies.
- Inventory, pack, and deliver snacks for multiple school districts/sites participating in CACFP.
- Create monthly menus and purchase requests based on the nutritional needs of the children being served and CACFP requirements.
- Collect unused snacks from locations we serve.
- Collect expense invoices and checks from Finance to report on monthly claim.
- Conduct CACFP monitor reviews three times per year of assigned Preschool and Early Head Start sites.
- Assist with food service department(s) at stand-alone sites.
- Follow up on CACFP enrollment forms throughout the school year.
- Follow up with new staff on CACFP guidelines/Civil rights training, as needed.
GENERAL:
- Document interactions/conversations with families in Child Plus as they occur.
- Be responsible for assigned data and self-monitor for accuracy and completeness.
- Participates in the annual program self-assessment.
- Answer the phone, copy, collate, file and other office duties, as needed.
- Share information and communicate regularly with staff.
- Work as a team member with the entire staff and attend meetings and trainings, as required.
- Follow program policies and procedures for absences, timesheets, reports, forms and supplies.
- Follow regulations established in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as they pertain to the program.
- Other tasks as assigned by supervisor(s).

Employment is conditional on criminal background check clearance, TB skin test / Risk Assessment clearance, a medical examination, and Board and Policy Council approval. Job performance is evaluated in the initial ninety (90) days of employment and annually thereafter.
