Position Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented, highly organized Litigation Paralegal with a preferred minimum of 3 years of experience in both civil/business litigation and criminal matters. The Litigation Paralegal at Head Murphy Law is a full-time, on-site role based in Farmington Hills, MI. This position supports attorneys in all phases of litigation, including organizing case files, managing deadlines, and coordinating communication with clients, courts, and opposing counsel. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting and formatting pleadings and motions, preparing and reviewing legal documents and discovery responses, and maintaining accurate records in case management systems. The Litigation Paralegal will assist with trial preparation, such as compiling exhibits, witness lists, and evidence binders, and may attend hearings or trials as needed for logistical support. The role involves working closely with the legal team to ensure timely, efficient, and detail-oriented support for active cases. The ideal candidate thrives under deadline pressure, communicates clearly, and can manage multiple active case files simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, proofread, and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and other legal documents in both civil and criminal matters
- Conduct legal research and summarize case law, statutes, and regulations
- Organize, index, and maintain case files, exhibits, and discovery materials (physical and electronic)
- Prepare trial binders, exhibit lists, and witness materials
- Coordinate scheduling of depositions, hearings, and trial dates
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, courts, and opposing counsel in a professional manner
- Manage e-filing and calendaring of court deadlines
- Assist attorneys with case strategy by tracking deadlines, evidence, and case status
- Conduct fact investigation and assist with witness/client interviews
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
Qualifications
- Preferred minimum 3 years of paralegal experience, with demonstrated work in both civil/ business litigation and criminal matters
- Paralegal certificate or degree from an ABA-approved program preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Strong knowledge of court rules, filing procedures, and litigation timelines
- Proficiency with legal research platforms (e.g., Lexis) and e-filing systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume caseload
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail
Preferred Skills
- Trial preparation experience
- Familiarity with e-discovery tools
- Notary Public certification
