What are the responsibilities and job description for the Geotechnical Engineer position at HDR Engineering, Inc.?
Primary Responsibilities:
HDR’s Geotechnical Engineer will: perform geotechnical engineering to support design recommendations for bridge foundations, retaining walls, and earthen embankments for roadways, railroads, dams and levees; perform geotechnical engineering analyses for the vertical and lateral capacity of deep foundations; perform slope stability and settlement analyses for roadway and railway embankments; perform slope stability, settlement and seepage analysis for dams and levees; perform subgrade evaluations for roadways and track beds for railroads; prepare geotechnical engineering reports and memos; complete site reconnaissance for the planning of geotechnical investigations; coordinate field investigations and laboratory testing; periodically observe the construction of earthwork for roadways, dams and levees, installation of driven piles and drilled shafts; and review work of and mentor junior engineers and technical staff as needed.
Required Qualifications
A Master’s Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 3 years of experience in geotechnical engineering or a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering.
Experience may include professional, internship, or university research experience and must include experience in: subsurface investigations, including Standard Penetration Testing (SPT) and Shelby tube sampling; soil strata and geologic conditions in the Midwest; Cone Penetration Testing (CPT); soil lab and material testing; foundation design under varying geotechnical conditions; geotechnical software including LPILE, Geostudio, SETTLE3D, COMSOL Multiphysics, MS Projects, AutoCAD, MATLAB, and gINT; USACE, FHWA, and DOT geotechnical guidance and standards; and Microsoft Office.
Accepting licensed and unlicensed candidates. Professional Engineer licensure is not a prerequisite for this position.
Available to travel locally and regionally to project sites across Nebraska, Iowa, and neighboring states. Typical travel is once per month for 1 to 3 days in duration.
