Primary Responsibilities
HDR’s Designer – Data Center & Mission Critical Facilities will design, lead, and implement next-generation digital-twin-based data centers that redefine architectural performance and environmental responsibility. Specific duties include: leading multidisciplinary design teams through all project phases, overseeing architectural documentation, coordination, and QA/QC; providing mentorship and ensuring design excellence, technical accuracy, and schedule alignment; collaborating directly with clients to evaluate existing data center prototypes, identify inefficiencies, and develop customized architectural strategies that enhance scalability, performance, and sustainability; developing next-generation digital twin models integrating real-time environmental and system data, using simulations to optimize performance, energy efficiency, and predictive maintenance strategies; evaluating and coordinating architectural solutions with mechanical, electrical, and structural systems to ensure efficiency; evaluating and designing redundancy (N, N 1, 2N), and maintainability in mission-critical environments and Data Center platform; reviewing and applying international, national, and local building codes, sustainability standards, and safety guidelines to guarantee technical compliance and reliability; contributing to business growth by preparing proposals, feasibility studies, and client presentations and offering expert consultation on energy-efficient and automation-ready data center design strategies; leading research into renewable energy integration, water-use reduction, and lifecycle carbon analysis to support sustainable and climate-resilient data center architecture; and managing collaboration with engineering consultants, contractors, and vendors to ensure smooth coordination and alignment with project performance goals.

Required Qualifications
- A Master's Degree in Architecture or a closely related field and 3 years of experience in architecture or a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or a closely related field and 5 years of experience in architecture.
- Experience must include experience in: architectural design and documentation for Data Centers; researching and preparing specifications for construction materials and products; managing and undertaking the production of detailed documents for construction; reviewing architectural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines; participating in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance; performing QA/QC and cross-discipline technical reviews; coordinating and assisting affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders; and providing construction observation and contract administration.
- Must be proficient in the following software: Revit; Rhino; AutoCAD; Photoshop; Illustrator; InDesign; Grasshopper; Dynamo; BlueBeam Studio; rendering tools such as Enscape, Vray, or Lumion; and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Project.
- Travel is required up to 10% of time to visit project sites, observe construction progress, meet with authorities for plans under review, and attend company/client meetings when required. Travel for this position could include all 50 states. International travel is possible.
