Information on the division:
Located in Strongsville, the 90 employee facility (100,000 sq. ft.) is one of Héroux-Devtek’s centers of excellence for the final assembly of landing gear.
As part of the Central Division you will lead P&L responsible for critical machining operations of major commercial aircraft programs such as the Boeing 777 and Embraer E-2, and important military programs as F-18, F-35, C-17 and C-130.

Summary:
Sets up and operates portable hone and mandrels machine to hone internal or external surfaces of metal objects such as, prototype cylinders, bearings, bushings or connecting rods to specifications, analyzing specifications, and selecting tooling according to knowledge of honing procedures.
Main responsibilities:
- Utilizes a handheld hone and mandrels to size bushings.
- Completes installation process below to place bushings in assemblies.
- May use special optical inspection equipment.
- Reports production time for each job to supervisor
Honing:
- Obtains such information as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts in run from job order and instructions of machine-shop supervisor, productions, or job setter and honing.
- Positions workpiece in fixture or on machine table, and secures it with clamps and wrenches, verifying positions with instruments such as surface gages and dial indicators.
- Selects honing speed, depth cut, and honing tool for each operation, according to knowledge of metal properties, abrasives, and shop mathematics.
- Turns nut on tool or sets automatic mechanism to expand tool to selected diameter.
- Positions and tightens stops with wrench to control length of stroke.
- Measures honed workpiece for conformance to specifications, using electromechanical limit gages, surface gages, micrometers, and telescoping gages.
- May replace worn honing stones.
Bushing Installation:
- Hone/ream features in parts using pneumatic tools for installation of bushings on parts/assemblies.
- Use solvents to clean surfaces prior to sealing or assembly. Install bushings into housings using arbor press, C-squeeze and/or hydraulic puller.
- Apply liquid nitrogen to facilitate installation of bushings, as required, per BAC specifications.
- Cold work holes to prepare for close tolerance fastener installation, as required. Perform surface seal on bushings/bearings and other part installations.
- Sizes and micro finish and all related blueprint dimensions
Our ideal candidate:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent and trade school, vocational education, or apprenticeship
- 2-4 years experience in work related environment
- Ability to read blueprints and manufacturing sketches.
- Be able to read inspection tools and have knowledge of Quality Control, gages, micrometers, dial bores and ring gages.
- Have ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Have ability to set tool lengths for each machine in department.
- Understand procedures and production schedules.
- Good physical condition; able to lift heavy loads.
- Knowledge or arithmetic involving decimals, fractions, and its application to the reading of drawings and measuring instruments or the calculations and recording dimensions.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
