Role Description
HCH, Inc. is seeking a full-time, on-site Site Civil Engineer for a 6-month project assignment based in Rayville, LA, with a home office in Monroe, LA. The civil engineer's daily responsibilities will include overseeing testing, inspections, gathering field data, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and collaborating with other engineers as problems arise. Note: This role is for a 6mo period.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site inspections to ensure construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable codes and standards.
- Perform and oversee field density (compaction) testing, coordinating with geotechnical technicians and laboratories to validate soil and subgrade conditions.
- Maintain up-to-date field reports, logs, and inspection records, documenting daily progress, materials used, test results, and site conditions.
- Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, and project managers to resolve construction issues, discrepancies, or delays efficiently and effectively.
- Enforce site safety protocols and promote compliance with environmental regulations and permit conditions.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs related to civil and site work, providing input or forwarding to the design team as necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
- 2-3 years of experience with some field experience
- Strong ability to interpret civil plans, topographic surveys, and geotechnical reports.
- Proficient in construction management software, GPS survey tools, and data logging equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Solid background in plot plans, equipment layouts, and cross-disciplinary team coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to identify field discrepancies and recommend practical, code-compliant solutions in real-time.
- Experience with piling design or construction is a plus.
Physical Demands
- Daily field trip to construction sites, requiring the ability to stand, walk, climb, and navigate varied terrain.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform tasks that require close, distance, and depth perception.
