Job Summary and Qualifications
The Infection Control Coordinator demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recommend age-appropriate measures for preventing/controlling infections in neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.
The position goal is to maintain a functioning coordinated process to reduce risks of endemic and epidemic nosocomial infections in patients of all ages and healthcare workers in accordance with infection control policies and TJC standards.
What You Will Do In Your Role:
- You will coordinate the hospital wide infection control process
- You will perform concurrent/retrospective review and surveillance of all infection control and related employee health issues
- You will act as a committee assistant to the Infection Control Committee. Provide surveillance data to the organization, including case findings and identification of nosocomial infection
- You will implement strategies to reduce risk and/or prevent nosocomial infections in patients, employees and visitors
- You will perform routine data collection and generate monthly reports for pertinent Medical Staff Committees and Administration, as required
- You will collaborate with physicians, nurses and other clinical disciplines in making decisions regarding each patient’s nursing care. Works with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital and with physicians, patients and their families
What qualifications you will need:
- Bachelors Degree in health-related field (ie: Nursing, Public Health or Epidemiology) preferred
- Infection Control Certification (CIC) preferred
- 3 - 5 years clinical experience; 2 years Infection Control experience preferred
- Knowledge of CDC, TJC, MDCR, OSHA requirements for infection Control
- Current Texas licensure preferred. Strong clinical and microbiology skills. Computer skills/knowledge
- Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
