Job Summary And Qualifications
The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator organizes the Trauma Program’s injury prevention processes and initiatives for the program across the continuum of care. The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator collaborates with the professional community and develops relationships with other agencies and organizations, enhancing trauma-related care and community relations. The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator provides trauma-related prevention and outreach education and training to nurses, EMS providers, other healthcare providers, and intended target audiences. The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator plays an integral role in injury prevention research and injury prevention programs that are consistent with the community needs, as well as research efforts related to trauma center data analysis and evidence-based research activities. The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator oversees the Trauma Program’s public relations, outreach, and injury prevention programs to maintain Trauma Center verification and reverification requirements for outreach education and injury prevention, including related Performance Improvement initiatives.

What you will do in this role:
- Ensures compliance with American College of Surgeons (ACS) and state and local trauma designation standards for injury prevention and outreach. Maintains required documentation to support compliance with hospital, ACS, local. and state standards.
- Develops and implements injury prevention and outreach programs based on community/regional needs and Trauma Registry data needs assessment.
- Coordinates community trauma prevention programs by developing, implementing and evaluating programs for targeted populations in the community related to injury prevention and other topics, identified through community needs assessment.
- Plans activities based on performance improvement indicators and evaluates effectiveness of plans.
- Develops and maintains partnerships with community organizations to support injury prevention efforts.
- Attends Trauma committee meetings to present information related to education, injury prevention, and outreach.
- Participates in the injury prevention and outreach of trauma care systems at all levels, from local to national.
- Develops and implements strategies for communication, education, and feedback for EMS systems within the catchment/referring area.
- Participates on committees, task forces, and unit projects.
- Develops and implements strategies for communication, education, and feedback for referring and transfer facilities.
- Develops, implements and monitors mental health screening initiatives to screen patients at high risk for psychological sequelae.
- Evaluates the impact of injury prevention activities.
- Collaborates with Director of Trauma, Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinators, Trauma Registrars, surgeons, nursing, ancillary, and other department leaders on injury prevention and outreach initiatives.
- Works with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital and with physicians, patients and their families related to injury prevention activities.
- Works closely with Emergency Medical Service providers, public health authority, regional trauma program coordinators and the community.
- Maintains a high level of expertise and professional growth related to the care of the trauma patient through review of current literature (Emergency Nurses Association, Society of Trauma Nurses, Centers for Disease Control, SafeKids, etc.) available on injury prevention
- Remains knowledgeable on local, regional, and national injury prevention legislation activities.
- Collaborates with public affairs and marketing on injury prevention materials and initiatives for the hospital and community.
Bachelor’s Degree In Nursing Or Public Health Preferred
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or Public Health Preferred
- 3 years experience in acute care Required
