Toolmaker

POSITION PRIMARY DUTIES:

The Tool & Die Maker provides support to the production department. The work involves a high degree of proficiency and thorough knowledge of tool-building practices used to construct, alter, or repair jigs, fixtures, punches, dies, molds, and gages of complex design and construction. In addition, the Tool & Die Maker assists in the structural design of welded frame platforms and supports as well as tool proof projects.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

· Build, repair, design, and rework die tools, fixtures, and gages.

· Perform all required machining and benching operations on production prototype and experimental tooling.

· Tool proof, where feasible, by producing first production parts.

· Fabricate mechanical parts, assemblies, and subassemblies using manual and CNC machining methods.

· Assist in the structural design of welded frame platforms and supports.

· Other duties as assigned to help team meet its goals.

Experience and Education Required

· High School diploma or equivalent.

· 2-year vocational degree and on the job training or 3-5 years of experience.

· Ability to read and write English is required.

· Minimum of three (3) years in set-up and operation of manual and CNC machines.

Technical Experience Required

· Ability to work from blueprints, method sheets, and occasionally partial drawings when no design is available.

· Working knowledge of shop math.

· Ability to set up and operate manual machines.

· Ability to set up and operate CNC machines.

· Proficient in the use of measuring tools: micrometer, caliper, indicator, and height gages

Physical Requirements

· Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move 10 lbs. frequently and 25 lbs. occasionally.

· Prolonged use of hands and fingers.
