What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Safety Manager position at HB Construction?

This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining an incident and injury-free work environment at HB Construction. This must occur through collaboration, training, and continued commitment. The Safety Manager seeks to ensure HB's Safety Program is best in class. The Safety Manager position is a full-time salaried position reporting directly to the Senior Vice President.

Responsibilities

Safety Program Management:

  • Establish, improve, and maintain a safe work environment for all HB Construction employees and work areas.
  • Closely collaborate with Superintendents and field leaders, conferring on site safety, training, and strategic planning.
  • Update HB corporate Safety Manual on an annual basis, including any forms to be used by HB personnel.
  • Develop and maintain a safety training program for all employees. Ensure critical safety trainings, including CPR, First Aid, OSHA 10/30, and others are held regularly. Monitor the status of safety training achievement by all employees.
  • Ensure that all safety equipment is maintained, and expired items are proactively removed.
  • Monitor and/or ensure all health, safety, and OSHA requirements are addressed.
  • Establish and communicate with OSHA on all accidents and incidents as required. Establish and maintain a strong OSHA partnership.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 logs.
  • Ensure OSHA STEP, CLAS, and other safety partnerships/recognition are achieved. Continually monitor industry standards and best practices in order to ensure HB is "best in class."
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department on proposed safety logistics and site safety plans for RFPs and client reviews.

Job Site Safety

  • Develop and oversee site-specific safety policies.
  • Train and/or mentor the development of Project Managers, Project Superintendents, and Project Engineers on industry safety standards and improvements.
  • Conduct periodic Safety Inspections on site and issue detailed reports via ProCore. Document actions taken to improve or correct violations.
  • Train deputies as available to conduct Safety Inspections.
  • Track, log, and analyze Safety Scores based on in-person inspections.
  • Schedule and perform on-site trainings for HB employees.
  • Identify what training and/or certifications are needed at each job site.
  • Ensure that all company safety inventory equipment and material is ordered and maintained to support all job sites and construction activities.
  • Investigate and report all accidents and incidents involving job site employees and/or subcontract personnel in accordance with HB Incident Protocol.
  • Ensure Superintendents complete incident action forms. Review these forms bi-annually to eliminate causes and future incidents.

Relationship Management

  • Identify value added incident and injury free work environment opportunities to meet and/or exceed client and stakeholder specific goals.
  • Interact directly with the workforce, clients, and stakeholders to demonstrate and foster an incident and injury free work environment.
  • Monitor and ensure that strong sub-contractor relationships exists.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to solicit referrals from and/or through clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Experience in conducting safety trainings, audits, and presentations.
  • Experience with safety management systems and software.
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various construction sites.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
