Field Installation Technician — IoT Sensors (Independent Contractor)

Location

The posted location is for the training session and initial sensor pickup at the client depot. Installations will take place throughout the greater St. Louis region, with infrequent returns to the depot location for sensor pickups or returns.

Overview

HazTrack is a sensor-based tank monitoring company. We place small sensors on used cooking oil tanks at commercial restaurant sites so our customers (used cooking oil collectors) can track levels remotely in real time. It's straightforward, repeatable physical installation work — no prior electronics experience required, just reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to follow a standardized process. On average each install takes 10-15 minutes on site, with about 20 installs routed together for a day's worth of work.

We're hiring independent contractors in greater St. Louis region to execute a concentrated sensor deployment project. You'll work from optimized daily routes, install sensors at restaurant sites, and submit documentation through our mobile link after each stop. The project runs approximately 2-4 weeks depending on tech reliability and performance, with 60-100 sensors (3-5 days of work) assigned to each tech per week. Priority for work in week 2 and beyond is given to techs who perform well in week 1 and show an appetite for more work.

What a Typical Day Looks Like

· Start your day by reviewing your assigned route in the field app (~20 stops, pre-mapped for you)

· Drive to each site — our customers are restaurants

· At each stop: locate the tank, attach the sensor using provided mounting hardware, submit required documentation through the mobile link.

· Submit correct site information (provided to you) and 3 high quality photos (examples provided) per stop through the app before moving on — takes about 2-4 minutes and is crucial for job completion

· Average time per install: 15 minutes

· Complete your route, submit your daily summary, done

Compensation

· Base rate: $35.00/hr — paid for all hours worked (driving, installs, documentation)

· Weekly performance bonus — Tier 1: $100 for completing 60 sensors in the week

· Weekly performance bonus — Tier 2: $250 for completing 80 sensors in the week

· Quality matters: bonuses are subject to quality deductions for installs that fail QA review or require a revisit (details explained at onboarding)

· Payment: bi-weekly, via direct deposit or ACH

Expected weekly earnings: ~$1,400–$1,650 at full completion. This is a contractor role — no benefits, PTO, or employee protections.

What We're Looking For

· Reliable — if you commit to a route, you show up and finish it

· Detail-oriented — you follow a checklist, take photos, submit documentation accurately

· Physically capable — this role involves driving, locating tanks, and installing lightweight sensors. Applicants should be physically capable.

· Smartphone proficient — you'll use our mobile app for routing, documentation, and photo submission (iPhone or Android, data plan required)

· Has a reliable vehicle — you'll be driving your own car between sites; mileage is not reimbursed separately (factored into the hourly rate & bonus structure)

· Local to St.Louis — or available to be in the area for the full project duration

Equipment & Requirements

· HazTrack provides: training, sensors, mounting hardware, and field app access (all equipment shipped to the depot for pickup during training)

· You provide: smartphone, reliable vehicle, basic hand tools (flathead/Phillips screwdriver, cordless drill, step ladder, scraper, protective gear).

· Dress code: closed-toe shoes required; gloves and old clothes recommended.

· No prior IoT or electronics experience required — paid training session (approx. 1-2 hrs) provided before deployment begins.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to drive for extended periods (up to 6–8 hrs/day)

· Comfort working in dirty environments (used cooking oil tanks) and ability to supply your own gear and equipment to account for this environment (gloves, rags, etc) commercial and industrial settings (warehouses, tank farms, outdoor storage yards)

· Ability to climb step ladders up to 4ft (only needed for select tanks)

· Ability to work in variable weather conditions

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
