POSITION TITLE: Custodian

POSITION GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play
and develop.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Raises the United States flag at/or before 8:00 A.M. on each day and lowers it at/or after 3:30 P.M.
- Inspects rooms, wet mops, and spot waxes classrooms as needed after the housecleaning staff has completed.
- Cleans the corridors and stair wells after each school day and during the day when their condition requires it.
- Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects bathroom floors and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Keeps the grounds free from rubbish. Performs yard keeping chores such as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
- Keeps all floors in a clean, attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
- Reports major repairs needed promptly to the Head Custodian.
- Reports all security violations, problems with door locks, keys, vandalism, etc., to the Head Custodian, who in turn will report to the Security Director.
- Assumes the responsibility for the closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except for those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
- Pass required Physical Examination and TB Test, Act 34 Clearance and interview.
- Ability to operate cleaning machines and be able to maintain various types of floor surfaces (Example: the sealing of the gym floors).
- Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate.
- Displayed proper work ethic and commitment to excellence in previous assignments.
- Current Act 24 (82), Act 34, Act 114, Act 151, Act 168 clearances and pre-employment drug testing and physical with TB test required.
- The person, while performing in this position, will be required to:
- Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear;
- Sit, and occasionally be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch;
- Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision and the ability to adjust focus;
- Subject to inside office environmental conditions with moderate noise level;
- Lift and carry supplies up to 50 pounds for at least 20 yards, use hand and power tools. These duties all commonly involve repetitive actions and motions such as grasping, reaching, twisting, pushing, and pulling.
- Possess effective communication, judgment, mathematical, planning and human relations skills, and to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 12 months; 8 hours per day.
- Salary and benefits according to the agreement between the Board of School Directors and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local Union No. 401.
