Position Summary: Building Aide
The Building Aide provides instructional, behavioral, and supervisory support to certified staff in order to enhance student learning and promote a safe, orderly, and effective educational environment. Working under the direction of certified staff and building administration, this position assists with instructional activities, supports individual and small groups of students, and helps meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students.
In addition to classroom support, the Building Aide assists with student supervision in non-instructional settings, including hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during arrival and dismissal. This position reinforces school and classroom expectations, promotes positive student behavior, and supports consistent routines throughout the school day.
The Building Aide is responsible for maintaining confidentiality, supporting classroom and building operations, and following district policies and procedures. This position must meet applicable requirements established by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for support staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
A. 36-60 College Credit hours minimum or completion of online course*
B. Ability and personality to work with colleagues teachers and other staff.
Pay Scale: $15.61 - $19.03 (Salary is based on previous related experience)
FUNCTIONS
- Participates in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.
- Conducts learning exercises with small groups of children.
- Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with other children.
- Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual children.
- Provides escort assistance for children as necessary.
- Helps maintain informal student performance records.
- Assists teacher(s) on maintaining student work and study areas.
- Assist with the supervision of children during play periods.
- Collects and displays suitable material for educational displays.
- Must be able to run, jump, walk, stand, sit, and lift.
PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT
The period of employment follows the academic calendar or nine and one-half (9.5) months annually
REQUIREMENTS
Must hold or obtain a Substitute Certification issued by DESE
*Alternative Pathways:
There are three pathways to secure a substitute certificate in Missouri.
1. have 36-60 college credit hours
2. complete a 20-hour course online
3. Complete the Parapro assessment.
