The Hazardville Water Company (Enfield, CT), is seeking a Water Treatment/System Operator
SUMMARY: The Water System Operator has basic knowledge of the water distribution system, possess excellent mathematical and computer skills and be in good physical condition; must be mechanically inclined and will be required to take qualifying tests. The Work is performed under general supervision of a Lead Water System Operator, although the Operator may be required to work alone.
The Treatment Operator operates Class II Water Treatment Plant. Responsible for operation and maintenance of all equipment necessary for the proper functioning of such plant. Performs water sample testing to analyze plant efficiency. Maintains accurate and complete records, and logs deliveries. Analyze, calibrate and maintain various mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment. Must have general understanding of turbidity, total coliform, fecal coliform, disinfectant residual, pH, hardness and coagulation to determine operational adjustments. Work is performed under general supervision of the Chief Treatment Operator, although the Operator may be required to work alone.
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, Monday -Friday. On Call rotation (Monday through Sunday). Must be available for overtime as required.
QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE: Requires high school diploma or GED. Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used in the repair and maintenance of water distribution systems. Must be able to comprehend all operator and maintenance manuals necessary for the proper operation of the Distribution system and Water Treatment Plant. Must possess exceptional communication skills. MS Office, Excel and Access skills.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION: Requires Valid Motor Vehicle License. Minimum CT Class I Distribution and Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification or ability to obtain through reciprocity or within two (2) years of the date of appointment to the position. Certified Backflow Tester/ Inspector a plus.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Employment is contingent upon passing a physical examination, drug screening and a background check.
