Duties
- Assist with the setup and operation of sheet metal fabrication machinery including press brakes, forming machines, CNC laser cutters, plasma cutters, and CNC milling machines.
- Interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings to ensure precise fabrication and assembly of sheet metal components.
- Follow safety protocols diligently while handling equipment like cranes, forklifts, hand tools, and machining tools to maintain a safe work environment.
- Collaborate with team members on assembly tasks, metal fabrication projects, and tooling setups to meet production goals efficiently.
Skills
- Basic understanding of shop math, measurement techniques, and blueprint reading for mechanical drawings.
- Knowledge of safety standards related to machine operation, sheet metal fabrication, welding, forming machines, and material handling equipment such as cranes.
- Strong attention to detail for quality control inspections and measurement accuracy during manufacturing processes.
If the employee qualifies after a year as a Preapprentice they have the opportunity to become a sheet metal apprentice which is a 5-year earn-while-you-learn program combining paid on-the-job training and classroom instruction. Apprentices learn to cut, bend, weld, and install metal components for construction, HVAC systems, and manufacturing.
