What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Service Technician I (Lake Toxaway) position at Haywood EMC?
The Assistant Line Technician is an entry level position in Haywood EMC's Operations Department that assists the serviceman on the line crew with all service work in regards to the maintenance of electric transmission and distributions systems. This position is participates in an apprenticeship program progressing to an Assistant Service Technician III over three years with formal education and on-the-job training.
Candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Prefer a candidate with an associate's degree from a vocational or technical school with a degree in electronic systems technology or electric lineman technology.
Candidate must:
- have ability to maintain valid NC Commercial Driver's License (minimum Class B).
- have ability to perform frequent physical activity to include walking, stooping, bending, regularly lifting up to 60 lbs. and occasionally lifting over 60 lbs., climbing, kneeling, reaching, crawling, pushing and working in awkward positions.
- have ability to climb poles of 25 feet and greater and perform work out of a bucket truck at height of 25 feet or greater.
- have ability to read instrument and computer readouts accurately.
- have ability to learn electrical theory and voltage of lines.
- must live within 30 highway miles of the posted job location.
