Primary Accountability:

The Radiologic & Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic imaging examinations using X-ray and ultrasound equipment to create high-quality images of specific parts of the body. This position ensures patient safety, proper equipment operation, accurate documentation, and effective communication with radiologists and providers. The Technologist participates in call and holiday rotation as required.

Major Duties:

  • Maintains the care and safety of patients during transportation and imaging procedures.
  • Explains procedures to patients and/or families and addresses questions professionally.
  • Instructs and assists patients with proper gowning and positioning for examinations.
  • Determines appropriate anatomical positioning for accurate imaging.
  • Practices medical and surgical aseptic techniques.
  • Obtains required patient information including consent forms, pregnancy status, allergies, renal function, and relevant medical history.
  • Consults with radiologists or providers regarding acute abnormalities and documents findings appropriately. Performs routine and specialized radiographic and ultrasound examinations proficiently.
  • Selects appropriate imaging equipment, transducers, and technical factors.
  • Operates imaging equipment safely to minimize hazards.
  • Obtains optimal diagnostic images and monitors image quality.
  • Produces, labels, marks, and prepares images for radiologist interpretation.
  • Enters patient data and maintains accurate imaging records.
  • Completes required technical worksheets including measurements and observations.
  • Prepares images for transmission via computerized systems and completes required documentation.
  • Demonstrates proper care and use of supplies and imaging equipment.
  • Maintains equipment and reports unsafe conditions or malfunctions.
  • Instructs nursing personnel on proper patient preparation for procedures.
  • Charges for exams and maintains accurate departmental records.
  • Assists within the radiology department as needed.
  • Keeps current with advances in radiologic and ultrasound imaging.
  • Communicates clearly with patients, families, providers and team members.
  • Maintains confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Works collaboratively to promote a positive team environment.
  • Responds appropriately in high-pressure or emergency situations.
  • Completes work in a timely manner and demonstrates reliability and accountability.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited program in radiologic technology and possess a valid license from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and have a current Kansas State Board of Healing Arts Radiologic Technologist License (LRT).
  • Must be registered through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Experience preferred, but not required.

Physical Demands:

  • Normal eyesight, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Normal hearing, with or without hearing aids.
  • Motor coordination and manual dexterity.
  • The ability to bend, stoop, crawl, and kneel.
  • The ability to exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly. 

Work Environment:

  • Well-lit work area.
  • Working under stressful conditions – emergency situations.
  • Working irregular hours, including after hours and on call.
  • May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases.
  • Exposed to offensive odors and hazards of explosive gasses.
  • Exposed to a variety of electromechanical hazards.
  • Work with people under all conditions.
