My client has been in business for the best part of 50 years with a national presence across the U.S. from their East Coast office servicing the Long Island, Manhattan and Greater New York area.
They specialize in complex renovations incorporating structural out of the ground revisions, complete gut renovations, new build, and complete MEP overhaul works. Their projects range anywhere from $20MM to $100MM and work across a diverse market incorporating federal, historical, education, healthcare, and commercial works.
Your new role
They are looking to add a Lead Estimator out of their Long Island office which is brought about solely down to the growth rate of the business.
You can expect the following in terms of day-to-day responsibilities:
- Initial analysis of drawings and specifications, ensuring estimates are developed and managed and have all the information provided.
- Prepare scope of work, design development, bid and change order phase cost estimates necessary for the planning, construction, repair of structures, or installations for mechanical work and other trade disciplines as required.
- Ensure unit costs and quantities of materials are accurate.
- Conduct lump-sum, GMP, conceptual and CM bidding.
- Prepare basic software-generated estimates for completion and technical accuracy, ensuring quality and integrity.
- Perform value engineering to bring projects within budgetary parameters.
- Creating accurate and timely quantity take-offs for projects across all phases.
- Attend networking events and communicate effectively with vendors and subcontractors to stay current with market-based pricing
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have 8-10 years’ experience in an estimating capacity with either a general contractor or developer and have a full understanding of pre-construction processes that include both lump-sum, GMP, conceptual and CM bidding.
The successful individual we be fully versed in MS Office, on-screen take-off along with having a strong sub-network across the tristate area for both union and non-union pricing. The ideal candidate would have a construction-related degree, and having experience across MEPs would be a plus.
