What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intrern position at Hays County?
The intern shall assist the Office of Emergency Services Department in completing administrative tasks and projects. Performs a variety of administrative staff work, gradually increasing in level of difficulty and responsibility as the intern receives on-the-job training.
- Operates office machines including computer, printer, photocopier, and scanning equipment.
- Assures the services delivered meet quality and timeliness standards.
- Enters, indexes, and scans information into computer system.
- Re-shelves files and organizes file room space.
- Recycles materials.
- Documents and files materials received.
- Sorts and files forms, reports, correspondence, and related materials.
- Interacts daily with staff and the public.
- Assists with projects as assigned.
- Performs a variety of administrative staff duties related to areas such as administrative policies, processes, procedures, systems, methods, reports, surveys, and forms, while learning the mission, structure, and operations associated with the assigned department.
- Research problems, discrepancies, and responds to routine inquiries related to the business, technological, and operational activities of the assigned department.
- Effectively utilizes the capabilities and functions of standard office software applications such as data management, spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing in completing assigned projects.
- May perform a wide variety of paraprofessional, technical, and clerical tasks during peak workload periods or in the absence of assigned staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Experience in secretarial or office/clerical work preferred.
- Experience with personal computers.
