Job Title: Head Start Family Service Worker
Reports to: Principal

Primary Purpose:
To support families as they identify and meet goals and to facilitate trusting, collaborative relationships between parents and staff.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field from an accredited college or university, Master’s preferred
Valid Texas social worker’s license (LBSW, LMSW, or the equivalent)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of and access to community resources
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Effective presentation skills
Ability to work with all educational levels of parents and staff
Ability to compile, maintain, and manage multiple forms of data, records, and reports
Experience:
Three or more years of experience in social work preferred – may be waived based on internship, work in a related human services field, etc.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Identifying family needs and goals
- Developing family partnership agreements
- Accessing community services and resources
- Obtaining emergency or crisis assistance
- Providing opportunities for families to participate in counseling programs when appropriate
- Providing opportunities for continuing education and employment training in the community
- Providing involvement and education opportunities that are responsive to the ongoing and expressed needs of parents
- Assisting parents in becoming advocates for their children
- Developing community partnership and interagency agreements
- Implementing procedures for transitioning children between programs
- Recruiting and enrolling children and families eligible to receive Head Start services
- Verifying age and eligibility for all children applying to receive Head Start services
- Monitoring enrollment data
- Analyzing causes of absenteeism and facilitating plans with families designed to improve attendance
- Planning and/or facilitating monthly Parent and Family Engagement activities
- Training staff and families on Conscious Discipline strategies
- Conducting weekly, scheduled classroom visits
- Planning and facilitating home visits with teachers in the fall and spring, and conducting other home visits as needed
- Maintaining confidentiality
- Regular attendance
- Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May supervise persons completing practicum or internship through a college or university program.
