What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Haymaker Company?
We are a growing real estate, construction, and homeowner association management company based in Lexington, Kentucky, seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities. This individual will support payroll and tax return preparation, assist with HOA management functions (prior experience not required), and be a trusted financial steward of the business.
This role reports to and works closely with an outside fractional CFO advisor who provides strategic oversight and professional mentorship.
This is a hands-on role well suited to someone who thrives in a small-company environment, is comfortable wearing multiple hats, and takes pride in clean books and accurate reporting.
Multi-Entity Accounting
• Maintain accurate books for multiple related real estate and construction entities
• Manage intercompany transactions and ensure proper entity-level reporting
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements for each entity
• Maintain chart of accounts and general ledger integrity
Accounts Payable & Receivable
• Manage vendor payments, subcontractor draws, and invoice processing
• Track job costs, contracts, and billing in coordination with project management
• Monitor aging receivables and follow up on outstanding balances
Tax & Compliance Coordination
• Prepare and organize supporting schedules for tax return preparation
• Ensure timely compliance with sales/use tax, property tax, and other obligations
• Support payroll administration by maintaining employee records, coordinating timely submissions to the payroll provider, and ensuring accuracy of payroll-related data
• Prepare annual 1099 filings
Homeowner Association Management Support
• Maintain and update the homeowner association database, including owner records and account information
• Support the preparation of annual HOA budgets in coordination with management
• Track HOA dues, assessments, and related receivables
Commercial Real Estate & Lease Administration
• Support the management of commercial real estate leases, including tracking key dates, rent schedules, and tenant billings
• Prepare and reconcile Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations for commercial tenants
• Maintain organized lease files and ensure billing accuracy
Cash Management & Reporting
• Perform bank reconciliations for all accounts across entities
• Monitor cash positions and provide regular reporting to ownership
• Support construction job costing, work-in-progress reporting, and project-level P&Ls
Required
• 3–7 years of accounting experience; real estate or construction industry experience a plus
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online required; QuickBooks Desktop experience a plus
• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Integrity, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential financial information
Preferred
• CPA, CPA candidate, or active pursuit of professional certification
• Experience supporting outside CPAs or tax preparers with return preparation
• Familiarity with Yardi property management software
• Experience with FAS Fixed Assets software
• Solid understanding of job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, or WIP schedules
• Base salary: $65,000 – $75,000, commensurate with experience
