Lead HVAC Service Technician - Reno, NV

$80,000–$200,000 Annual Earning Potential | Full-Time

Help lead the HVAC team at a growing, family-owned service company.

Hawthorne Plumbing, Heating & Cooling is looking for an experienced HVAC technician who can handle challenging service calls, earn customers’ trust, present solutions confidently, and help other technicians improve.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll run your own service calls, present repair and replacement options, close approved work, and support your teammates with troubleshooting, technical guidance, and customer communication.

Compensation

Base pay with performance-based incentives, including commissionable units—set payouts for eligible services and completed work under our compensation plan.

Total annual earning potential: $80,000–$200,000, depending on productivity, completed work, and performance. This range includes incentive earnings and is not a guaranteed salary. We’ll explain the compensation structure and leadership expectations during the interview process.

Your Responsibilities

• Diagnose, maintain, and repair residential furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps.
• Handle challenging diagnostic problems and help other technicians resolve technical issues.
• Perform refrigerant recovery, charging, leak detection, and system testing.
• Read wiring diagrams and troubleshoot electrical components, thermostats, and controls.
• Perform a thorough diagnosis and present clear repair, maintenance, and replacement options based on the customer’s needs.
• Explain the benefits, pricing, warranties, and available financing for each option.
• Confidently recommend solutions, address questions and objections, and ask for the customer’s approval to complete the work.
• Demonstrate a strong ability to turn service opportunities into approved repairs, memberships, and replacement sales through honest recommendations and clear communication.
• Coach other technicians on presenting options, building customer trust, and improving their sales results.
• Lead by example in workmanship, safety, professionalism, and customer care.
• Document findings, photos, recommendations, and completed work in ServiceTitan.
• Work with dispatch and management to address difficult calls, callbacks, and customer concerns.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong residential HVAC diagnostic and repair skills; five or more years of service experience preferred
• Proven ability to present HVAC options and close sales while maintaining high standards of technical work and customer care
• EPA Section 608 certification
• The ability to explain technical problems and coach others patiently
• Sound judgment, dependable attendance, and pride in workmanship
• A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• Comfort using smartphones and tablets; ServiceTitan experience preferred

Prior lead technician experience is helpful. We also welcome experienced service technicians who are ready to take on leadership responsibilities.

Schedule and Location

Full-time, in-person field position serving Reno and surrounding communities. Primarily Monday–Friday, with seasonal overtime, occasional weekends, and participation in the on-call rotation.
