Immediate need for a part-time, weekend Night Auditor in a temporary role at the historic Hawthorne Hotel in downtown Salem. A great opportunity for a recent hospitality or accounting grad to gain experience, or for those looking to earn extra money ahead of a wedding, trip, or the holidays, this is a part-time overnight position from 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM on Friday and Saturday nights for 10 weeks from April - August. Paid training would begin immediately. Following this, the night auditor could continue in an 'on-call' role or at the front desk (day shifts.)
Job Overview
The Night Auditor, as a member of the Accounting team, completes, balances and files audit reports on the various areas of the hotel (i.e. food & beverage outlets, rooms/front desk, etc.) to provide accurate, timely information in accordance with cash handling, credit card processing and accounting policies and procedures.
The Night Auditor is also charged with the same responsibilities of a Front Desk Clerk and acts as the Manager on Duty for the property during the times when no other senior managers are present. This is an overnight position from 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM | Full-Time but not permanent.
Essential Functions
The Night Auditor must be self-motivated and able to work independently with confidence and accuracy. While managing the Front Desk, you will balance guest service with audit reporting.
Greet all guests
Process guest reservations, registration (check-in) and departures (check-outs)
Offer guest assistance at every opportunity
Respond to all guest requests efficiently
Ensure guest satisfaction by following through on requests and other needs
Provide information to guests about hotel policies, services and amenities
Provide information, directions and other assistance as necessary about the local area
Maintain accurate guest information in the hotel property management system including, but not limited to: basic guest information, billing/payment, guest charges, etc.
Effectively communicate all pertinent information to other departments
(Housekeeping, Maintenance, etc.) regarding room status/availability, guest requests, etc.
Verify restaurant charges
Complete banquet traffic sheet; verify banquet charges and invoices
Ensure credit card batch is accurate and complete the batch process
Balance and close the day
Accurately run various reports, update worksheets, print and distribute
Answer the hotel’s three main phone lines using the proper etiquette, transferring calls in a polite and efficient manner.
Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Hawthorne Hotel.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
This is an overnight position; you must be comfortable working with a limited staff.
Must be able to stand continuously throughout an 8 hour shift.
Must be comfortable using computer software and looking at a computer screen for an 8 hour shift.
Must be able to receive and store supplies for the Front Desk which may involve lifting and moving items up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to assist guests with storing luggage at the Desk, which may involve lifting and moving up to 50 lbs.
Ability to negotiate workspaces with aisles 28” wide.
Must wear professional attire at all times, including dark jacket/blazer and hotel- issued name tag and follow all ‘standards of appearance’ protocols as noted in the employee handbook.
Qualifications for Front Desk Clerk
Experience with accounting procedures and administrative tasks.
Proficiency with computers.
Analytical mind, with strong attention to detail and an affinity for numbers.
Must be able to multi-task and stay calm during guest interaction.
Ability to speak and write English (compose letters and emails.)
Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
